Kind of surprised nobody here has one down yet. It is pretty slow still, but maybe ill make it happen tomorrow.
Few days ago i had my foxpro set up 20 yards from me playing bear cub distress and i fell asleep. Oops

Headed out tomorrow for a 3 day weekend, hopefully have pics to add when I return Monday

We're on our way to the taxidermist and butcher; Corey (JediHunter) will post the story and more pictures tonight. The pictures don't do the bear justice. He's a nice one. Old melon head boar that was peeling a ton of trees. A big shoutout to Jerome for all his help! Couldn't have done it without you. Also thank you to everyone else that helped out with information. Xforce and Bowhunter and everybody else. Now it's my turn to try an find one!
-
Crap that was fast. What a toad!
-
Again nice job and I'm glad to help you two out. Now let's get out and get you tagged out.
-
Skagit boys are getting it done again this year!

Bear with me my story telling isn't that great....
Opening morning we, Duckhunter14 and I, got up and started cruising the roads looking for signs. We found what looked to be fresh peels right off the road and decided to get out and take a listen. Not five minutes goes by and we hear a lot of thrashing in the timber below. Anyone who has been up in this country knows how thick it can be. We couldn't see him but he was making loads and loads of racket. That went on for an hour and a half then it went quiet. We spent the next 24 hours canvassing the area for other sign and we were disappointed. We decided to give this pig another chance to step out so last night we parked at the bottom and hiked up and took a listen. He got restless around 7 and decided to give us one chance. He stepped out at about 25 yards and I let the Remington 700 sing it's song right through both his lungs. He turned around and rolled to the bottom of the grade and took his last gasp.
After getting him gutted and skinned we took him to the butcher this morning and he was 162lbs hanging. Factor in guts and hide and were thinking he was anywhere from 250 to 275.
Thanks again to all the guys that helped us get my first black bear.
Who's next?

Blues bear down! Had an amazing trip last weekend in the backcountry and connected with a bear I had taken pictures of on a scouting trip. Spotted him from 900 yards away and was able to get to 360 yards and made a great shot just seconds before he was into the timber.

Skagit bear down! Got off work after a 12 hour nightshift picked up the girlfriend at the house and decided to go visit a trail cam that had some recent bear activity. What I thought would be a down and dirty memory card swap turned into fun filled evening. After walking into my camera we continued down the road where me and jkononen had seen some fresh peels from the week prior. The walk was short as me and the gf rounded a corner and sure enough this guy was maybe 100 yards away. I took my shot and the bear took off downhill crashing through everything in its path. I ran down the road hoping to get a follow up shot but the terrain was too thick but I could hear him crashing around below side hilling. I knew a little ways down the road it opened up and ran down hoping to get another shot in him. He popped out just like I was hoping but not long enough for me to make the shot. I knew if we waited he would step back out on the road and he did 25 yards Bang!Flop! It was exciting to have the gf with me I found out later she has never seen a bear before and today she helped me get it into the truck. There was half a dozen new peels where this bear lay right off the road and his stomach was filled with grass and dandelions.
-
Nice job wiseguy 24! Good looking bear and good story!
-
Great job! I got close tonight but he wouldn't come outta the thick stuff.
-
Nice work wiseguy! Congrats on a nice bear!
-
Awesome! I'm assuming you hit em with your first shot?
-
After skinning him I came to the conclusion first shot was a clean miss just got lucky we had the wind in our favor and the path the bear took we had a 2nd opportunity

He's right at 6' but what impressed me was this, especially in April.
-
Yum! He's in incredible shape for this time of the year.
Congrats on a dandy.
-
Damn, that's a great bear. Any idea live weight? He's got enough fat to make through another winter! :chuckle:
-
I was shocked at the amount of fat on my bear that I took on the 16th as well. Must've been 1 1/2" layer on the back

Congrats to all the bear killers. Monsterbull what bear unit did you draw to get that bruiser? :chuckle:
-
tgomez- Didn't put him on the scale but if he wasn't 300lbs live, he was really knocking on the door.
Boss- Not a unit draw. This one was bought. Went over and hunted on the Quinault.
-
Nice bear brother!
-
NICE one!!!
-
That Bear fat makes good boot grease, only problem is you have to leave your boots in the back of the truck because of the smell.
Nice Bear Monsterbull

Called this one in, snuck up behind me, 10 yard shot. Taxidermist just texted me said older sow by the toothwear, probably 8-10 yr old.

Huckleberry tag filled! Used fawn in distress call, this little guy comes in from my left side, 22 yards. Sneaked in behind my back, did not even hear him. Could not pass up the opportunity, he will make a nice wall mount.

Great looking bears!

Harvested my first bear! Shot her at 115 yards with my Tikka 300 win mag, she took off in the deepest nastiest stuff you can think of. Trailed her slowly and methodically and lost her trail. I stopped at the last print I could see. I had a view of about 10 square feet around me. I'm looking all around except directly to my right. I look to my right and I see a bears head staring rite at me laying on the ground under a tree. Not knowing its dead I raise my .44 mag, point it at her head and move the sights were I thought her vitals would be. Boom goes the .44 she gets up and runs, boom goes the .44 again and now no sight and trace of the bear. Tracked some more. After long discussion we decide she has to be dead or hurt real bad. We hike out get some water and gear and hike back down. Found her bunched up under a tree within 50 yards of the last time I saw her. My brother in law Kirk was a great help (couldn't of done it without him) "no bait just bears" is a great read and very useful. I also learned a lot from "education of a bear hunter" as well. And a HUGE shout out to Dale with Bear paw outfitters on the DIY map and the support from the field on how to hunt the terrain!
BTW
I need a good taxidermist for a bear rug. Any suggestions?

This bear did not even notice me until I had his shoulder in the cross hairs. Turned his head towards me as I raised the gun. Boom. Split the heart and clipped both lungs. He did a 720° spin and flopped. 100 lbs of meat on that guy, without bones. Breakfast sausage, bear tacos, deep fried bear nuggets :)
-
Bear down!
This is my first bear, I put in my time in the huc 121, beautiful area.
Had to work for this blond 200lb boar.
Spot and stalk closed from 350 yds down to 120 yds, almost busted by some deer.
Soaking wet and 18 days of work and dedication, it pays off.

Awesome bear Derek!!!!

I feel so lucky, I spotted the blond bear from about a mile away the day befor and nearly killed myself getting to it, and ran out of light, but I pulled within 500 yds just to have him stay behind a bush.
Next day I waited from 6am in the rain and wind, and just waited and hoped for the window in the weather and at 330 I spotted him 300 yds away and slowly made my way to 120. I had to lay against the mountain, ballance one bipod on my knee and take 20 seconds to deep breath lol 'boom smack
Made a really good shot as he turned his neck passed inside shoulderblade shattered his shoulder and the berger 165 ballistic bullet basically exploded his lungs, he rolled like a bolling ball,
Now this is my first bear, I didn't know they did that! Lol, not one speck of blood at all, so I followed the chaos downhill, "I should have waited longer" with my head down pushing through brush all pumped and anxious, now on all fours look up to see him looking right at me his head moved and my rifle stuck in the brush, I grabbed my 45 from 10 feet and dumped 4 rounds into him.
I knew better. Lesson learned, wait longer than ten minutes.
-
Cool bear, even has blonde claws! Nice work!
-
Sounds like a blast! Just like I like em up close and personal
-
I still have moments every half hour where I yell f' yes I got a bear I did it, I'm still learning.
I thank the bear gods for shining on me, I love these animals.
And yes he's going full mount!
-
Great looking color phase.

Beauty. I always liked blondes.

This is definitely the wrong place "tip post"....your grammar is bad, and the video is terrible, even with my laptop on its side, however I'm pretty sure it was an exciting experience that the young one won't soon forget. Now, did he hit the Coyote? :dunno: Please elaborate, and share more pictures. Thanks :twocents:

Thanks for the grammer lesson lol yes dead coyote

Nice Bear and video! As a new hunter with no hunting friends, I really enjoy watching solo hunts.
I don't mean to derail the thread but I had a quick question. I see you were hunting out of a car. How much of a limiting factor has that been in your hunting experience? I didn't have any luck my first year hunting and didn't get out much either but I've always felt that not having access to a truck of some sort really limits options.

I don't think it limits you all that much. Most logging roads are plenty good enough to drive a car on. I can say from experience that bull elk are difficult to fit in a car and deer are easy.

I can ring on this as I have been a long time car hunter. I am sure there is plenty of metal left atop many rocks on roads I had no business on, but being a poor college student and overall tightwad, I always seem to leave the pickup behind to save some coin on fuel. A quartered up deer fits fine in most cars. Although I have put a field dressed buck in my car before. The high legs ticked my neck but it was doable. Most of the time anything requiring an off road type 4wd vehicle is going to be closed anyway. And in my experience I've found the guys doing the offloading are probably driving past animals anyway..

Who's next?
That's a good bear right their now .. Congrats ...

No time wasted there!
Congratulations on getting it done. Time for another tag already. :IBCOOL:
-
Alright story time. Last night D-rock and I headed to a spot we have never hunted. It was supposed to be a scouting trip. We got up to a high clear cut and decided to stay there for the evening. Exploring I found a nice slope loaded with Huckleberries. We met back up and I went and showed him where it was. No bears yet. It was time to head back for the truck so we were moving slowly and glassing. Sat in a spot for about 10 minutes and as D-rock was walking off I decided to glass the bottom one last time. In the trees at the bottom of the cut was a bear staring right at us. I got a little excited as we set up and D-rock had to calm me down as the bear went out of sight. We knew it was still there but couldn't see it. We decided the best plan was for me to sneak up to a landing with him watching for the bear to come back into sight. I got about half way there when I saw the bear again. Straight on walking at me. I couldn't find a good rest so I waited as the bear again walked out of sight. I could see branches moving below me so I kept moving avout 10 feet trying to get a shot. Finally at 150 yards she steps out broadside. Still couldn't find a rest I shot off hand. Let the rifle bark twice and silence. Nothing is moving, can't see the bear. Marked where she was and waited for D-rock. Pure adrenaline!
-
Nice work! Congratulations!

-
Start em' young:)..........6 1/2 footer. Story- Tuesday was our anniversary, the wife wanted to grab a bite to eat and go bear hunting, fine by me😊 We grabbed an early supper and up we went. I headed to a new area I had seen some good bear potential in last year while deer hunting and upon arrival found it absolutely loaded with berries, what a great huck year btw. We weren't glassing for 5 min and the ol lady spots a bear, we were able to watch it shortly and size him up before he took off after a deer fawn he kicked up while feeding down the hill! We decided to sit on the spot until dark to see if he would work his way back out, two or so hours later he did just that and was headed quickly across a sparse hillside towards a thicker exposure holding lots of hucks. I was able to stop him with a howl and drop him in his last tracks with the 300wsm @ 585yds.
-
 cool
-
Damn, that's a smoker Lewy. Care to share a story?

Thanks guys! Pretty pumped! It was 6 foot nose to tail and 7 foot wingspan on the front paws. I knew the bear was in the area, a few friends had seen it before season. Went up there Wednesday and he was in the bottom of the draw and took off towards the thick stuff as soon as I saw him. And for some reason he stopped at around 250 to wrestle an alder before he went into the reprod and I hammered him! Never took a step with the 257 wby mag. Quartered him and skinned him and back home by 1 am!

Walked out onto a landing Monday evening about 7:30pm and heard this guy right below us eating berries. Couple minutes later he stepped out and gave me a 75 yard shot. Quick clean kill, quartered and packed out to the truck at 1:50am. He's a nice boar and I couldn't have been more happy with him. This pack out could not have been done without my good buddy who went through sticker bush hell with me to get him out.
