Ok so we have had the opener come and go.
Just how many of you have had your hat handed to you by something that has a brain the size of a walnut?
-
It took me many years of not harvesting birds to get good at turkey hunting. I have been doing very well for many years now. I still get my hat handed to me from time to time :chuckle:

:hello:

They seem henned up to me. Come off the roost and go silent. Not respond to anything. Most of the toms we saw were either on the side of the highway or on private property. We had great setups just nothing where we thought they would be.

LOL I even did a seminar myself on the 10th. Did everything I said to do but the problem was that I had never been in that area except for on a fire. We learned some good intel.

I about did but finally found one hot one ..It was a lot different this opener than some other openers I was on ...thing seemed weird ..and they were not talking much ..I finally got close enough to one and got him going but a few others left me kicking the dirt ! Still was fun !

Give it time. You'll figure it out. 8)

That is why I keep coming back.....Love the chase and most of the time Pea Brain beats the crap out of me but......once in a while....I serve his butt up on a "Platter". :yeah:

:bash: im Going for my first time this weekend! im excited now lol :chuckle:

Don't have time to turkey hunt this Spring. Wish I could go have an old thunder chicken hand me my tail. Turkeys are the poor mans Elk!

Had a "pea brain" remind me of a very important lesson yesterday..SIT STILL! and be aware of your surroundings before you move a muscle. Had one sneak in on me all quiet like. Caught me pulling on my gloves. I looked up and there he was across the draw watching me. BUSTED! He hung around briefly then melted back into the hills. STUPID BIRDS :chuckle:

That's why I find each and every turkey season fun. Just when you think you are an expert they make you look silly. I would MUCH rather kill a bird that is tough than to yelp a few times and have to shoot one before it runs me over. The one I got this past Saturday was one of the most satisfying birds I have shot in a long time. Took nearly an hour to bring him in. Awesome experience!

Every year bring a new beginning. It is great to whack a bird in your first few hours of your hunt. But it's all about the experience of teaching others in the field, with in which we love. A harvest is a bonus

With almost a month into the season some folks have been handed their hat and shown the door.

Had a long beard coming 20 yards from within range and here comes 3 coyotes outa nowhere to flush him away. wth?

If I wasn't busy moving, with school, work, and side jobs, I'd love to have a weekend out with my son. I love turkey hunting almost as much as bear. One year very soon I will draw a spring bear and have a turkey tag as well. Looking forward to the next Spring I can get my arse handed to me again. Good luck to all with some turkey tags, remember patience kills turkeys.

Had one come in one year in Reardan, coyote chased it off so I shot it in the face with my 12 guage! :chuckle:, riggamortus stiff instantly. It was only about 10-12 ft away! "That's what you get for scaring off my tom!"

I'm with you guys. I shoot every coyote that comes to my turkey call, since I figure that is a primary food source if they are actively responding to a call. I have watched some amazing coyote behavior where they will split off and surround me, or they will lie down in a likely ambush area. It is interesting to watch.
Other than the youth opener, I haven't been back out. I'm looking forward to being back in the woods though before the season ends. As far as being made to look like a fool, well, I have video evidence that I posted earlier. :bash:
