Cabelas has the Swarovski ATS 20-60x65mm on sale for about $1700 right now if anyone is in the market.
I went down there to look at the Razor HDs but the Swaro is a no brainer for that price. I did compare the Swaro 80mm, 65mm and the Razor HD 85mm all together while looking at the optics resolution chart in the store. To my eyes, the Swaro 80mm was a clear winner in every category, but it's just too big to carry around while hunting. The 85mm Razor was very good considering how much less expensive it is compared to the Swarovskis, but just didn't perform as well as I was hoping. The Razor seemed to distort the lines on the resolution chart. The 65mm Swaro had better resolution than the Razor as well as having a brighter, crisper image. It wasn't as good as the 80mm Swaro, but it was significantly more compact and a lot cheaper!
I sat down with both the Swaro ATS and my Leupold Mk 4 when I got home and I just felt bad for the Mk 4. The Leupold has served me well for a few years now, but It's not even in the same league as the Swarovski with the same objective size. Now I just need to figure out if I can get an eye piece with a range finding reticle that will fit the Swarovski body.

that's a good story! now what do you want for the mark 4?

Didn't you read the whole post? I thought I just talked everyone out to the Mk 4! :chuckle: I'll shoot you a PM

The Vortex MRAD & MOA eyepiece will bayonet right on, but will not lock.
-
If there is someone in the group that feels left out you give them the Mk4.

I've heard this before, but nobody has confirmed that they've personally done it.

I have a name for all of my equipment that's been relegated to the "me too" crowd, I call it Ean. Can't figure out where the name came from though. :dunno:

Wow! Great buy! Anyone wanna buy a Razor 85mm? :chuckle: JK..........but seriously 8)

As far as the Leupold scopes go, what's the difference between the Mark 4 and the Gold Ring spotting scopes, other than the reticule and exterior finish?
Sorry for the jack. I'm just in the market for a scope myself and am learning as much as I can. The Swaro, even at that price, is a bit much for me.
Thanks for the post!

Is that an in-store special going on? Can you tell me which store? I am very interested. Thanks for sharing!

This was at the Lacey store. I think it's just an in store sale because I didn't see it on line.

The only difference I've noticed is that the Mk 4 is all black and has a reticle. The FFP reticle is pretty nice though since I use the scope primarily as a spotter while target shooting. If I were only using it for hunting I would probably just run a standard Gold Ring.

I'm not sure if the same reticles are available but the GR12-40x60 HD does come in a model with reticles.

If anybody is looking for an absolutely smoking deal on a new Leupold Ventana SX-1 in either 15-45x60mm or 20-60x80mm send me a message. I have a couple extra in stock.

Nice find, I picked up a Swaro 65 ATS awhile back. Just received a tripod, panhead, and window mount from outdoorsmans. It appears to be really to be legit, just as BLR Man said. Worth every penny!
