My brother and I were deer hunting on the west side the third weekend of the 2006 season. My brother had shot a small buck that morning so we decided to head up high, about 5,000 elevation to look for a big blacktail. We stopped and got out of the pickup to glass a large hill side that often carries deer. While glassing something caught the corner of my eye. I figured it was a deer up hill from where we were parked so I ran around the truck and then realized that it was two cougars walking across some rocks on the top of the ridge. I told my brother that there were two cougars and he said yeah right, until he looked up and saw them. His gun was in the back seat of the pickup because he had already shot his deer, so I had the only shot. I rested on the door of the truck and took aim, and then herd a voice say, "your scope cover is on", I guess the excitement of a cat made me forget to click the scope off. The front cat stopped on a rock ledge, broadside as if she was posing for me, they didn't even know we were there. One shot in the back of her neck and she flopped off of the cliff and kicked a couple times behind a stump and that was it. The other one was gone and over the ridge so fast even if my brother had his gun out he probably wouldn't have gotten off a shot. I shot her at 176 yards at about a 90% slope. It was a pretty good day of hunting, my little brother shot his first deer and I shot my first cat.

My scanner is not cooperating with me so I hope that these are eligible in the contest.
I was hunting down in Trout Lake in 2006 Modern Firearm Deer season. I was sitting on a dried creek bed behind a large log. From my position, I could look down the creek and see if any deer were grazing. Lots of deer sign in the area was keeping me on my toes even though the weather was cold and rainy. About 0845 I heard a twig snap in the brush, saw a flash of tan, and then a Cougar head looking right at me 15 feet away! I slowly reached for my 30-06 sitting right next to me, put it up to my shoulder, and relized that my scope covers were still on. She was so close that I looked down the barrel and squeezed a shot of. Direct hit. I figured that she was not going to continue moving, but I was wrong. Thru the brush she came and another shot with the rifle. I climbed over the log, pulled the scope covers off and hit her in the heart. The whole situation happened so fast that when all was said and done, all I could say was Holy Sh*t for about 5 minutes straight.
She measured 6 foot nose to tail and weighed approx. 125-140 lbs. Not 100% on the weight, it was the game wrdens guess. I got 40 lbs of meat off of it so alls well that ends well. :)

Beautiful cat! Great story, glad you had the guts to take the shot! :yike: Theres a ton of cats over there.Thats where I got mine too. Did Diane Schmidt do the rug??
-
Bill Albrecht did the rug. He works out of North Bend. I went to Moro Taxidermy this year for my bears. Huge price difference

This is a coyote I called in to within 8 yds by using my mouth to imitate a squeaking mouse.

Hello all
I'm new to the site but couldn't resist showing off a pic from a dog i shot this year. I was sitting on the top of a hill looking over a long flat. I had been calling for about 20 min and was just thinking about getting up. I heard something and when i looked back this dog was standing right behind me. I turned and shot so fast that i didn't even notice how close it was. When i got up to get him i took a whoping 8 paces and was standing over him. This is the closest shot i have ever made on a coyote.
-
Crap didn't mean to put the pic on twice sorry
-
8 paces were you making mating calls i think he wanted to hump ya :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
he did shoot that yote at 8 paces, and it was trying to hump him, but at least his dog hit the ground. two weeks later i missed mine 8 times on the run!!!
