My oldest daughter will turn seven in a couple weeks. She's been bugging me to take her on her first turkey hunt (not hunting, just to be with dad). I've decided to make a go of it on the east side to up the odds of seeing some birds, new scenery, and a road trip with red vines and jerky ;)
I have a few areas I used to hunt years ago around Kettle Falls, so that's probably where I'll go knowing nothing else. I just worry about crowds and all that driving for nothing.
I've considered posting a trade request in case someone would be able to help me out for a quicky weekend hunt on private land. I just want to get to a spot where we won't wake up to 10 other hunters. We will only be hunting a Saturday and part of Sunday, likely after the opener, and not returning the rest of the season. I'm open to some sort of trade and could offer a variety of things from archery/shooting coaching, bow tuning, treestand tactics, getting a hunt story published for you, antler mounting (not shoulder mounts), general elk & blacktail deer areas, etc., etc. If you have something in mind, shoot me a PM! I'll entertain anything for a chance to get my daughter in front of some gobbling action. I'm not even concerned about shooting a bird, really; I'd just like to show her a great time in turkey country.
Any thoughts/ideas are appreciated!

"I just want to get to a spot where we won't wake up to 10 other hunters".
That is going to be your biggest problems...I would concentrate in areas that may not be as populated...The other thing you may think of is to go with another parent that is going on the youth hunt..the week before opener...that way you can be in areas that have turkeys and show her some. The problem with that idea IS THE COLD.. I suggest you go around May 1st...Its warmer, most hunters are home and are now weekend hunters...I think the April 26 time frame also will allow you to take her on fishing opener for lakes...A cast and blast....Thats what I did with my son two years ago...a turkey hunt in the AM, breakfast, fishin the afternoon, turkey hunt the evening roosting birds...dinner, bed. Take lots of pictures...If you go early...NE is your best bet to see the numbers, try around Chewelah, Pend Oreille Game Range up Tiger Hwy out of Colville...Starvation Lake Area Narcisse Creek, Starvation is ususally planted with trout..Good Luck and Have fun. Look for deer sheds too! :)

Yelp, great info - thank you!! Never thought to combine it with fishing. She loves trout fishing.

You might start a new topic in Hunt swaps for Youth Hunt swap Opportunities. There may be a way to get more swaps going also.
