Title: WISE food?
Post by: carpsniperg2 on May 20, 2016, 10:36:11 PM
One of my wholesalers is now offering wise meals and foods. I spend a good chunk on mountain house each year. The wise prices are good. Has anyone tried there offerings? Thoughts.

Also if there is some guys that might like some of there stuff I can probably hook ya up. They don't get all there stuff but a lot of there big meal kits/packs are in stock.

I've tried a few different ones, if you like mountain house, you'll probably like wise, I didn't notice a huge difference in quality really.

I stick with mountain house chicken Ala king or chili mac, and mre's for when I need easy, quick meals though, so maybe my palate isn't as refined as most  :chuckle:

...maybe my palate isn't as refined as most

Well, if you like MH Chili Mac...probably not! :chuckle:  That's about the most rot gut thing I've ever eaten in my life.  Can usually smell whomever has eaten it within the past four days - whew! :o

Then again, I like the Lasagna with meat sauce and the scrambled eggs.  So that probably doesn't say much about my refined palate either.  I may be the only one I know that will eat the eggs w/bacon.

I saw the WISE meals at the store the other day.  I saw the lower pricing and figured I should give them a try before hunting season.  Eager to hear what others think.  Savings probably won't add up to all that much.  But these days every little bit helps.

I have to agree.  MH chili mac is disgusting, but the lasagna with meat sauce is pretty good.

Here is another option.  I haven't tried them yet but she is getting good reviews and had interesting podcast on the gritty bowman.

that's kinda funny, the mh chili mac is one of my favorites. but I also use pyrodex pellets in my muzzle loader and shoot a 2007 mission bow so take any of my opinions with a grain of salt :chuckle:

I've heard more than one person say the Healthers Choice is good stuff.  But you certainly aren't saving any money buying it.  Nice to have a couple packages as a good change every few days.  I do that with foil bags of salmon.  Just can't do MH every night for ten days straight without something a bit more palatable to break the monotony.

Should have seen the guides up north when, after five days, I broke out a Hostess Blackberry Pie.  I could probably have sold that thing for $100! :chuckle:

MH biscuit and gravy is great stuff!!! I can eat it even around the house. I also like the chicken breast and mashed potatoes. Those are my 2 go to meals.

I also pack the star kiss tuna foil packs and mayo packs

I noticed that Chicked breast and Mashed Potatoes the other day.  Had never seen it before.  Glad to hear it's worth trying.

Anyone else agree with me that MH eggs are probably the worst thing ever for freeze dried food? :'(

A few guys on the forum told me about the bacon, pb and honey bagels for backpacking. I thought it was weird at first but after I tried a few I was hooked. Little on the heavy side though. I have seen REI advertise other freeze dried brands besides MH but I haven't gotten around to trying them yet.

They sent me some samples and all had trans-fat so I gave them away.  I sent in some feedback and got into a ridiculous discussion with the rep about how you simply can't make a FD meal without TF.  I sent him the ingredients of similar or exact meals from his competitors that didn't have them.

For me, it was a deal breaker.  There are other options that are better.

Well I just got a 60 serving entrée kit. We will see how taste testing goes.

Only thing I don't like is I was hoping for individual servings. They are all packages as 4 person servings in this kit.

Usually when I pull one out, I'm hoping it feeds 4 people so I don't have to cook 2 :chuckle:

:chuckle: I know the feeling. In the field that's fine I was just meaning to taste test. That way I could pass more out to a few people to try.

There is a few that sound tasty and might not be to bad.

Gotcha. Let us know. I'm going with a few HC this year in the mix with MH and would happily try some new flavors in the MH quality of meal.

So what you guys are saying is you won't eat the chili mac but you will spend the next 2 hrs after your meal scraping the "cheese" from the lasagna off your spork  :dunno: :chuckle:

Better to scrape cheese off the spork than use the spork to scrape your shorts clean the next morning. :yike:

Seriously though, add a hot dog to it, it adds extra lube the next morning  :yike:
