...and then on Friday I wasn't. He always met me at the door when I get home. Bo never did turn out as my great hunting dog, but he was a loyal family member. He was a big ole Golden Retriever, 95# in his prime. He had a vicious bark that scared those that knocked on the door. BUT he never bit anyone. He just wanted you to pet him and throw something to fetch. He was great with the kids and other animals; chickens, rabbits, goats, cats and other dogs.
He lived a full life, almost 15.
His hips had started going a couple years ago, bit he still would play. He never lost his appetite or bowel control. Just had a lil trouble breathing in the end and finally couldn't get up off the floor and didn't eat on Friday. I knew it was time.
The wife and kids spent all day Saturday with him. Brushed him, trimmed his paws and fed him some bread(he would steal and eat a loaf 😂 a few times when left on the counter edge) as we used it to hide pills, gave him some aspirin. After I got home from work he was outside enjoying the grass with family. I spent some time then carried him inside.
Allowed the kids to say their goodbyes. (Man this sucks 😭)
Bo is running in the grass chewing on his bones with all the other dogs in heaven.
One of my fondest memories. Was pheasant hunting at Skagit HQ, he got birdy and flushed one. I made a good shot and dropped it. Looked for Bo and he was running full speed back to the truck. He waiting for us to walk the half mile back. Last time he went hunting :chuckle: . (Unfortunately someone on a dirt bike had ruined him by throttling hard next to him)
RIP Bobo

Sorry Floyd. I can definitely vouch for the power of his bark. He was a good boy. RIP Bo!

I didn't want to click on this thread in fear of what I'd likely read but as heart breaking as it was to read I'm glad you shared a tiny glimpse into the life of Bo. For what it's worth, you should take comfort in the fact that Bo passed on knowing he was loved, equally as much as he gave it. I'm sorry for your loss.

There are times I can still hear my girls toenails on the floor coming to greet me at the door, and it's been two years. Sniff
Sorry for your loss.

So sad to hear about your loss bud, but, it sounds like Bo had a great life around good folks. What else can a pup ask for? I betcha he's chasing multiple species of birds in dog heaven, probably great big flocks of them, and looking down fondly on you and your family for the life you gave him. RIP Bo.
