Title: Huckleberry Spring Bear Help
Post by: villajac29 on May 23, 2016, 06:54:35 PM
I drew a huckleberry spring bear tag and it is my first year hunting bears in the spring. I have spent most of my time in the remnants of last years fire and spotted no bears and found only a single pile of poop. I have put 10+ miles each day in away from active roads and spent a lot of time behind the glass. I tried a spot briefly higher north in the unit off of the cedonia-addy road but that area is very new to me. I have map scouted a second spot in this area and will most likely try it out. This memorial day will be my last weekend to hunt and am open ears to any advice given. I am learning that bear hunting is quite difficult but find a great interest in the challenge, I also would love some meat in the freezer!

That can't be bear scat!! Most of the photo's on here show a handgun in the pile, perhaps from unlucky bear hunter's!!!

You need to cover ground until you find fresh bear sign, if there's no fresh sign then there's probably not many bear in the area! When you find fresh sign, then hunt that area!

Go up the Addy/Cedonia to the top of the pass and go south.  Lots of clearcuts in the area. One bear hunter I know shot at and missed a beautiful chocolate and black bear there a week ago. I first thought it was a moose up the hill in the clearcut. Find a likely looking location and blow a fawn distress call...never know what might happen!!

Thanks, that's helpful! I'll keep looking that sign too!
