A dandy boar hit the ground today. Cool red color, will wait for hunter to post story. 6 mile hike should be out at dark. To much snow for me to help.

My brother and I drew tags togethor and went over about four weeks ago and hunted 5 days and he killed a nice blonde bear not quite as big as mine and we saw a few others. I had planned to go back again but my schedule was messed up with work and kids. I had a short window to give it a last try so I left Forks late after work and kids baseball practice and drove all night to get there. Road was still snowed shut so had to hike 3 miles up the road to the trail I wanted to hike in on then packed in about two miles and set up camp. I had two days and then had to be in Cheney for my kids state track meet. The stars aligned and i crossed paths with this nice boar. Killed him about six miles from my truck. There was several feet of snow in the timber which made the hike out a little miserable but I survived and made it to Cheney on time. Don't assume if you draw this tag you will see these kind of bears on every ridge. It is a very tough hunt and access is limited due to snow until late and its a long drive to get there for a lot of us. I had the tag one other time and didn't fill it and talked to several other hunters who hadn't seen a bear this year. That said ,its beautiful country and a fun hunt if your in shape. Thanks for all the compliments.

Dream bear, congrats!

Beautiful bear  Congrats
-
Congrats on a dandy bear
-
Nice bear, looks like an old warrior!!
-
Amazing looking bear! Glad your hard work paid off!!
-
It's definitely not a hunt for everyone, there is one road in the wenaha and it's the boundary line. With a little luck you may get one from the road but hiking in that country is the way to do it! Congrats again Scott, very well done!
-
Great bear, congrats!
-
Awesome!
-
Great bear!
-
That is a great looking bear
-
I laugh. Most people look in this country and go home. Better be in shape.
-
Thx for the pics and the story.

Outstanding bear! I got my first blues bear this year and I can attest that it was far from a walk in the park. Nice work!

Great Bear!
I can attest to the difficulty of this tag. It makes me sad to see the actual numbers every year of the amount of people who did not hunt.
I went in with another buddy this year who had the tag and while he didn't fill, we saw 8 unique bears in those few days.
Another thing I've learned is if you plan on hunting this tag, you NEED to have your rifle capable of shooting long range.
Even the shortest shot is going to likely be 3-400 yards with most shots being in the 5-800 range.
Again, great bear, and congratulations!

Here is the 2014 Game Harvest Report for Wenaha Spring Bear. 45 permits issued 5 Bears killed. I wonder how many people actually hunted.
-
Good bear Scott. A hard earned one is always better than an easy one.
-
Awesome bear

Oh c'mon guys. My wife shot her bear only a few hundred yds from the cabin. It was on Kendall Ridge digging away without any knowledge of her approaching. Grabbed the horse and hauled it back to the cabin and that was it! :chuckle: :dunno:
Disclaimer: she was actually pretty popular for a while after shooting it because it had been a while since anyone at the cabin had shot a bear, expecially one that close and easy to pack out. It never happen's that way in the Blue's.
