Title: Friends and family 3D shoot
Post by: Rainier10 on May 31, 2016, 03:59:32 PM
So I moved the battle in Burien targets to my cabin in eastern Washington this weekend for a friends and family archery shoot. Twenty shooters total, I think 29 people total at my place. We had 15 rinehart targets and one steel pig. The steel pig was optional. Two shots at each marked target. There was a turkey and steel pig at one station. You could shoot twice at the turkey or once at each. Steel pig was 20 points, turkey and all other targets were 10 bullseye, 8 vitals and 5 for the animal.

Day one we went through the course twice for 60 shots, only one at the pig if you took it. Day two was once through for 30 shots and the pig option was back on the table.

Here are some of the photos. I didn't get one of all the targets.

Is that a velociraptor and a guy riding a bighorn sheep in your pickup?

After the shoot we did a run and gun challenge. Run the course, all fifteen stations, one shot each including the steel pig. Shot your arrow, retrieve your arrow call out your score and move to next target. Same scoring per target but pig was ten or none. Event was timed also, you got one bonus point for every five seconds you were ahead of everyone else. Only the first place time got bonus points. This is me coming in from retrieving my arrow on the last shot, 60 yards on a bull elk.

Here is the elk and raptor when they arrived at the house the other day, really impressed my Burien neighbors.

Yes he is riding a sheep, he's from Covington where men are men and sheep are nervous.  :chuckle: Check out the rock bank if you zoom in the last photo of me running back from the elk. Lots of arrows lost there.

That's some serious $cash$ spent on 3-D targets.

Fun costs money and we had A LOT of fun.

How we justify it is we get the targets for each other as presents.  20 years of marriage you run out of gift ideas, plus if we want something we normally just go buy it.  Over the past 4 years we have just got a target for each other for birthdays, Christmas or Mother's day/Father's day.  Not every time but it is always a great backup plan for a gift.

Some of them came from Camofire as well, blemished targets at a pretty good discount.

Here is a photo of the steel pig before I painted it and installed the target behind it. Pig was black an I used a black block target behind it. Shot was 19 yards but tough to see this vitals with black on black. A few arrows were lost on this one.

You should set up a Hunt Wa shoot.

The wife actually mentioned that.  We have looked into insurance and that is pretty easy to get a one or two day policy.  We are going to do one more friends and family shoot hopefully in August.  Once we get it completely dialed in we will look at maybe doing something next year.  I am guessing we could probably get 10-15 extra people from here to come over for a shoot.

I can even bring more targets.

Or couldn't they bring the targets to your range D-Rock and piggyback off your club insurance since you would be the "host"?

We have a shoot scheduled for July 16th and 17th not no late to piggy back off that shoot.

Sorry for the delay, all of a sudden the mod thing got a little crazy.

All of those are great ideas, I really like the Huntwa BBQ idea.  Transporting all of those targets for either of us can be a pain but I could make it work, maybe not bring them all but some of the cooler ones.

Not sure I can do the July 16th/17th shoot, busy summer schedule but I will let you know.

I can't even imagine how pissed off my wife would be if I bought her a target for mothers day!!

Oh she's a keeper for sure. Her friends come to the house and say"look at those dead animals on the wall in your living room. " My wife says, "I know, aren't they cool?"

The pig was a huge hit,  :chuckle:.  For the next one they want me to make the circle a different color.  I used a black block behind the black pig, it made it a little difficult to see the circle but at 20 yards I though you could see it fine.  My guess is at least 8 arrows were lost.  Thanks a bunch for going outside the normal fire pit work and making that for me.

That looks like it was a lot of fun, definitely should do a hunt-wa shoot and I know I would be glad to chip in and help with set up or even pay some money and chip in with meat for a bbq
