My best. And most earned. That year spent 3-4 days a week in 2 sq miles of those hills from March till hunting season. Hunted all seasons on multi tag up till I nailed him first day of late modern. Rattled in. Thought it was a fork horn through the thick brush, was very happy with the opposite of ground shrinkage.

Sorry for the poor photo quality... I just took the pictures of these two bucks through our kitchen window. I have seen some nice bucks around here but never this big at the end of May. Take a close look at the 2nd photo and guess why the deer ran away seconds after I took the picture.

They were shot maybe 500 yrds as the crow flies and shot about 30 minutes apart first time we've both tagged out on the same day and pretty close to the same time and we've been hunting together a long time
His buck ( in the blue cart ) is very close looking to the buck I shot last year almost identical crab claws in the front and they were probably only a 100 yard difference

Those are 2 studs ..That one thing nice about gates ..the deer have a chance to mature . It stinks to walk or hike or ride a bike that far but its obvious what you can gain from hard work ..  I can not wait for this fall after what I seen last last fall ..just to bad a couple got away but hopefully they are bigger this year ...

Yes, some really nice bucks, but at the same time, it amazes me how many mature forked horn bucks there are out there.  These photos give credence to the philosophy that if you want a trophy rack, you need to hunt areas with proven genetics to grow big racks.

I'm pretty sure I would pop off a shot at any of the bucks listed above and end my season happy;  but at the same time, if I wanted a 4X4, I might never see one if I'm hunting where these last few bucks above lived and grew to maturity as a  gnarly old two points.  They don't look regressive, they seem to be offspring of parental bucks that didn't need big racks to be successful in mating.

2013 buck.  4.5 yr old forkie.  Hiked in past gate aways and dropped him in the middle of the day.  Glad the local Forrester was around to load him in his truck and haul him out before it got too hot.

True, some areas grow 4's, some don't... I like the areas that grow 4's with eyeguards... some areas got em, some don't....

That's some crazy genetics going on with that buck.  He's definitely got a bit of everything going on in that rack.   Does that qualify as a double main beam?  Love those long eye guards/brow tines.

Really nice bucks AKBowman.  Love that mahogany color!

I was one of the unfortunate non-draw MS tags.  If I score a OTC MS tag, I'll be out there with my bow as a warm-up for the real show.  If one of those big forkies walks in front of me, I will do my best to end my season early.

I passed on a real nice fork-horn @ 15 yards last year and then kinda' lost interest in deer hunting.  I have a MS deer tag  this year and have a good idea of which buck I am going to be after this year, but that big fork-horn will probably end my season this year if he gives me another chance like he did last year.
