Title: What we do for our dogs, breeding anyways....
Post by: lokidog on June 01, 2016, 09:25:19 PM
So, as many know, we are breeding our Golden Retriever Amber again this year.  We chose to use the same male as the last pups have been awesome.  Unfortunately, the stud is on the circuit.  He will be in Nevada this week and then in Montana Sunday night for a couple of days. It looks like the timing means I have to take a trip to MT.

A month or so ago, I was doing a deck job for a neighbor and mentioned this to him.  Well, it turns out his dad lives in Missoula and he's been wanting to go see him.  It also just happens, that our neighbor bought an airplane last summer and offered to fly us out there, weather permitting.

It looks like the weather is going to be great so small plane across two mountain ranges, here we come!

Sounds like a fun trip.

Speaking of your title, Several years ago we had a particular male we wanted to breed our yellow lab.  Well he was not very skilled at "target practice" :chuckle: so at one point my wife was down with them both.....trying to guide it in.  :yike: :yike:

We ended up having to do an AI, (guess the wife isn't good at target practice either) :chuckle:

Who have you chosen? If they were in Montana last week I probably judged or watched them. I judged a nice golden in the qual. Don't recall the name but I believe the owner was Canadian. I think he got 3rd. Nice looking dog as well as nicely built and structurally balanced. Seemed like a well mannered dog to top it off.

The dog is Mulligan, Lee Herskowitz (Semper Retrievers) out of Portland. It is the same male as our last breeding with Amber.  The pups all were great, so we figured might as well stick with a good thing.

Nock Nock, that's hilarious!

I know the feeling.  When we bred our Brit I had to use drugs to bring her into season, and then I put her on an airplane from Atlanta to Nebraska to be bred.  Luckily we now live in Denver, so I will be able to skip the flight on the next breeding, but it will still probably be an 8hr drive to get to the stud dog for breeding.

I think lokidog just wanted to brag that he gets to fly in a small plane to Montana.  :chuckle:  If you all see a small plane flying along I-90 tomorrow headed east, give them a wave.   :hello:  Meanwhile it makes me a little nervous, I admit.   :(

Yeah, well Weathergirl jinxed it.  If we flew yesterday it would have been no problem, but Amber was just not ready.  Heading out tomorrow morning but there is weather coming in Thursday and the pilot only has his VFR, visual flight rating, can't do clouds over the mountains.   He also has to be back for a trip to LA on Friday morning.  :'(

At least he still wants to go with me, and drive.

Well, tried this morning, but no go. I think the trainer that has the dog didn't give quite enough time as she had a meeting with someone. This evening though, they chased and played a bit and he finally got the job done. Will be doing another tie in the morning, then back to WA we go.
