Title: Arctic Fox
Post by: Encore 280 on June 03, 2016, 08:20:51 AM
Anybody have an Arctic Fox travel trailer? I'm looking at buying a used 26' and just wondering about the pros and cons. Went and looked at it last night and seems to be in really good shape. Has a slide out and triple bunk. The bunk area I could use for extra storage or whatever so I think that would be handy in itself. Just thought I'd check and see if anyone has one and how they like it. Thanks

No first hand experience with them but they are high on my list of our future trailer. We have looked at alot of trailers in the past year. The fit and finish in them ( Nash and Black Rocks )compared to others is very obvious. They seam to hold there value better also.

This one I'm looking at is an '08 and original owners. Been in the garage for the last 3 years. Everything seemed to be in order and well taken care of and non smokers. The only bad thing is I have a 25' Rainier sitting in my driveway. :yike: Can't decide if I should unload the Rainier then look for another Arctic Fox to come along or get the AF and then hopefully unload the Rainier. Decisions, decisions. :bash: Spose I could make a double wide. :chuckle:

I have had 3 of them, they are awesome rigs. I had a 2004 25', 2008 26' silver fox edition and now have a 2014 25y model.  Never had to replace or fix a single thing on any of them.  And, they do hold their value more than other makes.

Good luck!

Nash/Arctic Fox trailers are some of the higher quality trailers out there and their owners tend to stick with the brand, like me.  They all have their issues from time to time but I wouldn't hesitate purchasing one in good shape as long as the price is good.  I would ask if they lived in it.  If someone lived in it, I would stay clear of it.

It's been parked inside his garage for the last 3 years. I'm just hoping my F150 will haul ok. He said it weighs just over 6k and my 25' Rainier weighs in at over 7k so I'm hoping we're good to go. I'll find out after I hook up to it and get underway.

Arctic Fox is a good brand. There's a reason you don't see a lot of them on the used market.

Been noticing a few of them delaminating lately. Really surprised me. Saw 1 today in fact. The front was pretty bad. Look it over close.

Older ones? This one is an 08 and has been kept inside or under cover but I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.

They looked like older models to me. Might do a google search and see if there were certain years that these issues. Seems like a lot of manufacturers dealt with it. I think I saw they use a cardboard type liner that got damp and separated.

I had an 07 Arctic Fox camper for 8 years.  Loved it.  Great in the cold...the very cold.  Well built.  Great systems.
Had to sell it to fit all the kids in a bigger trailer.
When the kids move out, I will be trading the trailer back in for an Arctic Fox camper.

I had a 2001 22'. Had it for several years with no issues at all, towed like a dream, well insulated, comfortable etc. After about 8 years I sold it to a buddy and he still has it to this day, he said he had to get the refer fixed a few years ago but that's it.

The difference in weight between my Rainier and the Fox has me bewildered. The Rainier is 25' total length from very back to tip of tongue and weighs a little over 7,000. The Fox is 26' from back to front of body not including the tongue and weighs a little over 6,000. Must be different materials or something, I don't know. :dunno: The AF just seems more massive than the Rainier.

I bought a 27 ft '08 just last October to live in and my only regret is I'd like a push out but the price was too good and it winters great. All I do is unhook the water on the coldest nights and drain it.  I gave it a good washing on the outside today because it was hot out and I wanted to be in the weather. My Dad bought it in early '09 for them to travel and he got it on the yard and 2 weeks later my Mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She passed away 3 months later.  He used it a couple times and my siblings used it a few times otherwise it's brand new. I am mobile, took it to Carlton for Memorial Day Weekend and Deer season last year. Nice to have my own hunting rig! Lol

Which model did you buy? Does it have a slide out?  And I agree, for some reason they seem larger and feel like they are heavier than they are.  My 2008 had 16" tires on it and was very tall.  I sold it to a guy that was towing it with a Tundra.  And, the couple we bought it from towed it with a F-150.  Do you have air bags on your truck?

Ok it's parked in my driveway. Tongue weight didn't seem that bad but the little ol F 150 was doin some pulling. Seemed more so than with the Rainier. I'll read up on the owners manual tomorrow and find out what model and all the other stuff on it. It has the dinette slide out and triple bunks. It was well taken care of. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

If you have cordless driver. Use an adapter and socket for raising and lowering the support jacks. Way easier. Can you tell I'm getting lazier as I get older. :chuckle:

We're in the same (boat) trailer, I got lazy a long time ago when I had the screw type jacks that came with my camper. Got 2 cordless Rigid drills, one for me and one for the Mrs. Only bad thing about that was she didn't pay attention to when the jack was ready to two block and about broke her wrist :bash: so I put electric ones on with wireless remote. I just sold the camper last week. So now I use the one of the drills for the Rainier trailer jacks but now I have to sell that one but all the handy stuff is going into the Fox. Anyone need a 25' Rainier?! If you have anymore helpful hints I'm all ears. I'm looking at a Ram model tongue jack on Amazon. Has almost 5 star reviews on it.

Not sure how much the Amazon tongue jack is but this is a decent one and free shipping.

Nice trailer!  pretty sure it will be your favorite!

Just an FYI, we loved ours when we had one but when it got below about five degrees some of the electrical and plumbing froze up and wouldn't work. Not that you will probably have it out at those temps often but just so you know. Other than that we loved it.

Just an FYI on the electric tongue jacks.

The motors can sit higher and somewhat further forward causing them to hit the tailgate of your truck while hitched.
Some rigs hit manual jacks too, but some don't.  Just a thought.  It's nice to be able to drop the tailgate when hitched.

If you do get one, go big on the tongue weight rating. Also look at the extendable feet.  Pull a pin and drop, much more stable.  The ones with built in lights are nice too.
