Title: Athens archery
Post by: demontang on June 03, 2016, 11:01:32 AM
Well I've been through a lot of bows this year trying to find one I really like. Had a prime impact, obsession evolution, and xpedition perfexion. I have been looking at Athens since the ATA show and after talking with Pam and Rodney I sent in my staff shooter form and was excepted.  I curently have one of there older bows and I'm waiting for my staff bow to come in. If anyone wants to see the bows just let me know. Pam and Rodney have been great people to deal with and they have a custom shop that can do about anything to your bow doesn't matter what brand they will dip, paint, engrave, and do other things to you request.

I shot them at last year's ata show.  Seemed solid to me.

Yeah so far I have had a easier time tuning and the grip seems to fit me better. The finish is nice and I'm hitting ibo.

Just looked at their website. Their bows look very nice. Is there any local dealers on the east side? Yakima or Tri-Cities?

The only shop in WA that comes up on their website is Mays Custom Achery in Port Hadlock. Looking for them on the web, I'm not sure they're around, anymore.

You went through 2 of the best bows ever in the Obession Evolution and the Xpedition Perfection. I myself got a Xcentric and wont be switching for along time.

The perfexion let me down, way under ibo and I couldn't gain any speed at all even after a week of playing with cam timing sync let off. Liked my evolution but the Athens khrios I picked up was smother and only 10fps slower with to me easier hold on target. My anthym is honestly the best holding bow to date and I'm getting just shy of 300fps.

Grizzly archery might. He is a little on the fence about it. Cause he picked up xpedition and isn't moving any. Think if people show him they are interested he would pick them up. He doesn't want to get stuck with the first bows he orders.

Should have got in contact with Rick Maybee, or my Brother (Spot ON Archery) they both have Perfexions and neither are under IBO NOT even close.

I'll have to run my Perfexion through a chrono one of these days just to see how close to the IBO it is.

Not to be overly critical demontang, but I could talk with a staff shooter with about any manufacturer out there and I'll hear how their bows are the greatest thing since sliced bread and how all the other manufacturers were let downs to them. They don't meet IBO, they draw shorter than advertised, they don't hold as well.... You are the first person I've heard say they had an Xpedition that wasn't meeting their IBO rating or within range of it to be a moot point. You're pushing Athens, I get it, but there's no need to rag on other bows because some one might be able to point out that a bow like the Anthym was put out by Hoyt 8 years ago in the Katera XL. Smooth draw, holds great, 320 IBO, long ATA, and was about the same price 8 YEARS AGO!

Well its the true I've talk to Brad and his dad a lot both said the perfexion was a little down from ibo. I was getting 270 at first I sync the cams and played with the cables to try and speed it up and max out at 280fps that was at 29.5" 61lbs with my 362grn arrow. I liked how the bow held just left me looking for the speed everyone said they had. There ordering was a little bit of a sore point too. The money I lost on the xpedition hurt but I just wasn't happy. Everyone has different taste and I haven't shot one of there hunting bows.

Until short people stop asking me to get stuff off the top shelf and then looking at me funny when I ask them to get me something off the bottom shelf because they're closer to it, I shall continue to pick on them. Equal rites and all.

For the record, I don't have anything against Athens I was just pointing out that anybody can find negatives in bows that aren't there's. My Perfexion may very well be under IBO like yours was but at the end of the day, if I was all that worried about speed I'd have bought a different bow. It's cool to see another smaller company talked about and their bows discussed here. I'd just hate to see this forum become like AT where it's guys running down other bows to make there's sound superior. They all have their high and low points and the best bow out there is dependent on the guy buying it.

Know with that all being said, do you think it's possible for me to buy some of D-rocks old bows? I'm thinking they might be the rite draw length for my daughters by the time they're teenagers.

That's the first I have heard of that from either of them, I talk to them regularly, (I was in brads wedding) and they both got their bows from my brother (Spot On Archery) one thing guys got to remember is Xpeditions draw lengths are SPOT ON not a 1/2 inch long like EVERY other bow company out. I have shot 29 for my ever and I had to get my Xcentric in 29.5.

Mine was set .25 Long with 29mods and I got the 29.5 mods later. I have a draw board I check the lengths on. The xcentric is the one I've heard is faster. Talked with Justin about them. Maybe my 2016 was different then the 15 but it was under. Point is I wasn't happy and kept looking.

alright alright we get it your blowing your xpedition horn we get it but you don't have to throw all the other bow manufacturers under the bus especially when draw length is all measured to the same standard. :chuckle: :chuckle:  just joking.
