Title: 5 years to draw the tag, worth the wait.
Post by: SuperMag on June 03, 2016, 01:55:31 PM: I glassed this bear from around 1 mile away feeding in a clear cut. I could instantly tell he was big, I started making my way to the bear with the wind in my face. I knew where he was but couldn't find him again as I was slowly working my way towards him. When I finally seen him again he was at 50 yards behind some thick brush. I got setup in a good position for a shot and waited about ten minutes before he finally started moving away from the brush. The wait seemed like forever and I was praying the wind wouldn't change direction on me. The bear finally stepped clear of the brush at 46 yards, I made sure my rest was solid and the crosshairs were steady right behind his front shoulder and slowy squeezed the trigger. He jumped straight up at the impact and I racked another round but it wasn't necessary as he only made it ten yards and piled up!!! After the shot I let my buddy know I had a giant bear down and he started heading my way to help with the work. The bear is a old boar with white hair starting to grow on his face and his teeth worn almost all the way down. It was a great solo spot and stalk hunt and a great trophy.

Post by: SuperMag on June 03, 2016, 03:51:02 PM: Thanks for the compliments, it was quite the rush and made me very happy about my decision to pass a nice solid black bear about 2 hours earlier. I haven't officially measured the skull yet but from the rough measurements at the taxidermist it looks like it has a decent chance at making all time B&C.

Post by: hunterofelk on June 03, 2016, 03:57:49 PM: That is the kind of bear you want to get. I don't pay much attention to bear hunting anymore, where do you need a permit to hunt bear in spring? Is that the southeast corner of the state? When I lived in Montana I shot a 10 year old boar during the middle of May so I know the thrill.

Yeah, it was quite the opposite, I knew he was real big when I shot but he kept getting bigger every step I took walking up to him.
