I will Skillet. I'm the one who applies for all of our permits, so he had no idea what he was going to get if anything. Then I told him that he drew this permit. It took him a half a day to finally figure out the value of this permit. He's super excited now. It's hard for him to let loose with excitement when our business is always running him ragged into the ground all the time, it's sometimes hard to put a smile on... that permit did the trick :)

I just came across this post while looking for information on the Teanaway area. My Father drew a EF any bull tag this year. He is extremely excited, he is 73 and has never had a large bull, I am hoping that he can fill this tag this year being that he doesn't have many more to go at his age. He has hunted the Colockum for years and is unfortunately somewhat unfamiliar with this area, he is actually over there scouting today. Good luck to the other tag holders!
-
This bull and several others are in the teanaway unit. This was in june so im sure he is much larger now. Congrats on the tag. Looks like the area holds some big bulls.

That's awesome bchambers, we're in the same boat about the knowledge of the unit. At least you might get to hear some bugles now. I heard the state gave out 5 tags not 2. Come to think of it, that makes more sense. Anyway, we'll be headed back this weekend to put some more miles on the ground. Hopefully we'll see more animals and less people (non hunting types that is).

Why would they give out 5 tags? Regs say 2.

That's what I thought too. So far 3 people besides us have spoke up saying they have this tag, so there must be more than 2. It's the state regs, they practically have to put out another pamphlet listing all there mistakes so it doesn't surprise me they screwed up on this too

There's two Teanaway EF quality tags in September (hunt 2021), then there's three Teanaway EF regular bull tags from 10/24 - 11/6 (hunt 2808). All are any bull.
-
Someday I hope to draw one of these permits.
Good luck to you - this guy was in GMU 335 2 weeks ago - don't know where he is now.
-
So since im fairly new to the state and dont really know quality units from non, is this a good quality hunt? Lots of big bulls? Ive seen some decent bulls.

Aaahhh, okay. Some guy was telling me there were 5 quality permits, thanks for shedding some light on that... that's good to hear because it would be super crowded with 5 of us in that huge unit in the same week :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Good luck Southpole.. Should be a exciting hunt.. Chit I thought you were a dude the whole time on this site... :chuckle: lol.. Good luck to your husband..

Good luck on your hunt Southpole, hope your hubby bags a giant! Looking forward to the results!

That's okay Elkpiss, campmeat thought I was a dude too :chuckle:. I've been called worse things. We didn't do too well on crawdads this year, maybe it's the year of the bull instead

They drew 5 rut tags. I know of 4 of the tags now and a friend of a friend has EF bull tag.

Congrats on the draw Shoot em with a bow it's more fun LOL. Good hunting
-
Thanks ya'll. Headed over that way right now. Maybe we'll see some monsters in the back of some pick-ups this weekend from the archery guys... just leave one for us
-
South Pole I want to see a big bull on your horse. Good hunting
-
Hope you showed hubby the pics of ffbowhunter's bull, that'll get his blood pumping! How'd the scouting trip go?

I showed it too him this morning while we were still over there this morning. Yeah, nice fricken' bull! Mixed feelings about looking at something like that. You feel like, so there's some monsters around, but.... where and how do we get to them. We found one hot spot with lots of current action, but we need to add another couple spots to hang on our tool belt. I feel like we're getting a handle on the general areas we need to focus on, but we need to make sure we don't get too scattered on too many areas and waste time. 4flech, we decided not to do the drop camp with pack animals. It would have been fun, but decided it wasn't necessary.

We think my bull was a satalite...Teanaway Ridge is where I would focus my time and effort. Best of luck, I can't wait to see what you guys get!

Things We've Learned In The Teanaway Unit
1. The Teanaway unit is not an easy hunt, especially if the weather is too fricken hot!
2. Scouting early in popular hiking areas will make you wonder if you were in
the Teanaway or Seattle?
3. Highway 97 & 970 have to be THEE most dangerous highways in the state. A person must drive at least 100 miles an hour, don’t turn off anywhere or you’ll get rammed off the road and if oncoming traffic passers can’t make it around the car they are attempting to pass they WILL run you off the road.
4. Crafting ankle blister skin into dream catchers is not as easy as a guy would think.
5. The Caboose Bar & Grill has a great Friday night prime rib with very good service.
6. The train runs through Cle Elum at least 1-2 times a night, sometimes not at all on Sunday nights or morning.
7. Never thought I would ever have to use the Phelps EZ-Estrus call I won last year from the Mule Deer Foundation auction.
8. Learning how to bugle and cow chirp was fun and definitely my gig.
9. A guy can not spend as much time as we did in Cle Elum and not stop by Owen’s Meats, you’ll be sorry.
10. Finding pretty, sparkly rocks that makes me turn into Smeagol and saying “my sprecious!” was kinda fun but creeped out the husband (along with the dream catcher crafts)
11. Crossing a river in my bare feet at 5 in the morning was a refreshing way to wake up (also feels good on raw heels)
12. Finding a 6 point elk shed while on a solo scouting misson may have been an omen.
13. Calling in my first bull to 50 yards to the house we stayed at was a good way of knowing my bugling and cow chirping didn’t suck. He was a nice 6 by 6, yet another omen.
14. Receiving solids tips and advise from a few Hunt-Wa members was very much appreciated, you know who you are, thank you!
15. Shooting a 6 by 6 less than 50 yards away with a 300 Winchester magnum is very effective, may as well have stuck him with an arrow... no it wasn't the same 6 by 6 from the house.
16. Trading for a bigger bull for all the lessons, memories and stories that we gained… No Way!
We didn't get a "Teanaway Pig" as hoped for but we were thankful for this 6 by 6, he was beautiful and made us smile. By the way, we are green at this elk hunting thing, I think we did okay considering. All that matters is we had an awesome time and we wouldn't trade it for nothing. Thanks again to the guys on here that gave me some solids tips and advise. Thank you to our meat cutting friend that was with us, he saved us a lot of cutting time. Sorry for the crappy pictures of the 6 by 6, it doesn't do it justice. Anyway there it is. If anyone could tell me what that rock is that would be great.
Good Shooting Mike!

I also want to thank ours friends for taking care of our livestock, getting our mail and banking while we were away scouting and hunting. I'm pretty sure it was a pain in the butt, for a guy that has to get up at 3 a.m. for work, to feed cows in the dark. Also, thank you to our 3 employees for holding up the shop while we were gone, I know for a fact the wasn't easy either.
-
Congrats! Nothing wrong with that trophy! Glad you had a great season!
-
Awesome all the way! What a trip and what a bull!

Well done Mr. Southpole!

Congrats! Also, driving 970 at night is a good way to find critters - had to dynamite the brakes last night to not get a big buck just south of Teanaway River Rd, ruined the wife's nap.

That's a great bull!
