Title: OTC AZ archery
Post by: Tbob on June 14, 2016, 11:26:37 PM: Anyone else hunt the OTC archery seasons in AZ? I've been scouting out a new unit. This will be my second year hunting AZ. I hunted Javelina this past Feb and it was a blast. Gonna try the deer this year. Who else is going??

My last scouting trip planned before the Aug opener will be over July 4th Weekend. Probably gonna be just that much more like the face of the sun..HOT !!!
Going to be interesting to see how my glassing skills hold up. I think I'm going to be glassing the shady spots all day from a shady spot all day.

Be safe out there too, hydration and watch for fires. There is a big one rolling outside of Show Low right now already this year.

My last trip temps were in the 80-90's and I killed 2.5 gallons in 2 days (including 2 Mt House) dinners.. My plan was to pack into a canyon I like about 2 miles from the road. I decided for the Aug hunt, that I'm just going to car camp and make the hike each morning.. I feel like that beats hiking 3-4 gallons of water back there for a few days of hunting.. I plan on going back in Dec/Jan as well if I don't get one in Velvet. Even if I get lucky and get one this summer, I'll probably still buy a new tag for 1/17 and hunt into the rut as well.. So little time and so much hunting to be done!
