I've resisted conceal carrying in this state because I don't like the idea of the requirement to have a license. I always figured the 2nd A should be enough of a license. But I don't like breaking the law either, so I don't carry unless I'm going to or from an outdoor activity.
That leaves me without protection most of the time. So, that has me thinking about biting the bullet and getting licensed and getting a good concealed carry weapon. The world is getting crazier, and I should probably get protected.
So, what are the better options out there?
I really like the idea of the FN FiveSeveN due to the 20 rd mag and the fact that I'm afraid it might be one of the weapons the liberals are going to go after if Hillary gets in office. Maybe I should get one before they get banned? So, is it a good choice for conceal carry? Can it be comfortably carried and concealed even when wearing a T-shirt?
Thanks in advance for any tips. I'm going to have to do lots of research.

I like the Glock 26 for its light weight and concealability. Add a G17 mag as backup and that's 26+ rounds for fairly cheap. Holsters, mags, and ammo abound, and it will be far cheaper to practice and maintain than almost any other gun.
Add a few 30 rounders in the truck and you are pretty well armed for almost any situation. All for less than about $600.
Re: FN5.7. Consider that if they do move against that gun, the ammo, parts, and mags cost will skyrocket overnight. Then it becomes an expensive paperweight/club.

I like the Glock 19
Or a nice out to dinner- 38special/357 derringer
or my 45 XD lots of ummph
or for out in the boat the stainless Llama in .380
But then I carry based on what I'm doing or where I'm going
The woods its a 41 mag wheel gun or maybe a 22 high standard for grouse

For personal defense I like the .45 in a compact 1911. The Kimber CDP Ultra is my carry gun of choice.
-
Sig P938. There are lots of other options but the sig is hard to beat in my opinion.

3.3 Xdm 45auto

In basic size any single stack will be more comfortable and easier to conceal the a "comparable" Double stack. Having said that, there are tons of variables to think of, Holster type, , and carry position, and clothes make the biggest difference depending on your body type. I have carried everything from 5 in. to 3 in, double stacks to singles stacks. All can be carried and concealed efficiently. My current daily carry is a XD 4 in. .40 cal.
If you wish to carry IWB (offers the most concealment) holster choice is critical to your comfort. There are a lot of great holsters out there. I own many holsters, some are better in one situation and another in a different situation depending on activity and or what I am wearing.
When carrying OWB I have a couple that conceal very well with just a tee-shirt.
Honestly, I do not even think much about it anymore. Most people are totally oblivious to the surroundings.
You will hear people say this or that holster is the best. Every body carries differently. Having a good quality holster that can adjust multiple ways helps you find your sweet spot. I prefer my holsters to have an FBI cant. You may not like a canted holster. Some popular holsters are just plain crap for quality.
My three go to holsters for IWB are the:
Galco King Tuk - Very well made by far the most comfortable for me
Galco Southern Comfort II - well made and comfortable
Milt Sparks Versa Max II - very comfortable and exceptional quality, my dress up holster with style, LOL
My go to OWB Holsters are:
Galco Concealable Belt Holster - hardly noticeable under a t-shirt
Disantis Speed Scabbard - hardly noticeable under a t-shirt
Blackhawk Sherpa II (I have 6, one on each pack, paddle configuration and Quick detach) - When I do not care about concealment
Fobus Revolution Roto Paddle - very good holster
Too many Kydex to count
Crossbreed - very comfortable (the clips broke) now mounted behind my headboard of my bed.
Do not forget a good belt, I use mostly a Blackhawk Instructors belts
Like I said I have a lot of holsters, still not even close to how many shoes my wife has, but working on it,
LOL

If you think its a good investment, then buy it. That doesn't necessarily mean its your best option for CCW, though. I bought an AK simply because our enemies on the Left don't like them. That doesn't mean its the first gun I grab when things go bump in the night downstairs.
Keep in mind the average self defense shooting is only 1.2 shots, as the mere display and bang of a firearm quickly changes the chemistry of a lethal force encounter. If a five round .38 J-frame happens to work for you, then carry it and learn to reload it quickly. :twocents:

The problem for me is I never met a gun I didn't like. :chuckle:
But I carried a 9mm S&W 9ve for years and shoot thousands of rounds with no problems. 16 +1. And you can get them for $300.00.
I also carry a LCP 380 as a back up every day.
But my favorite now since most self defense is 2 shots or less as stated above , is my Bond Ranger ll. With B.A.D holster.
In the end if its too big or heavy ,you wont carry it long. Pick something that feel comfortable. They all go bang. :twocents:

Good advice. Lots of bashing on 380's but it's better than nothing
-
Not supposed to carry at work, so most times it's a NAA Sidewinder .22 in my pocket. Better than nothing. If out and about, it's an Airweight S&W .38. I had a Kahr CW40 that concealed great, shot reliably, but I had to change my hand position so much it hurt to shoot if I wanted to hit anything. Then I had Diamondback .380 that I didn't have a bit of trouble with, but I didn't like .380 much. If I'm out hunting, it's my 1911 or .357.

I'd love one of these. I like the larger caliber without the double stack for carrying on your hip. I like the 14 rounds that a double stacker offers but I have to use a shoulder harness or it's like having a baby on your hip and looks like it too.
Currently I carry a 9mm because of the flat profile. LC9 Ruger, with a Crimson Trace.
-
Glock 43, very concealable good power. Glock 19 if more ammo is needed. Kimber 5 inch steel frame 45 if I am sure there could be a rumble.
For day to day I like my Glock 43
Carl

I carry a FiveseveN Curly, you are welcome to try it before making your purchase. ;)
-
With recent events, personally I think all of us need to consider going with a mid or full size double stack pistol. I have changed my mind on this since there have been more of these terrorist type shootings going on. I am going with a G19 because of it. Convenience store thug with a knife, a .380 in the pocket or .45 single stack all day long, but things are different now.

Can't argue with that.
Micro PSA: Shoot a hajj wearing body armor in the waist, not the head. :twocents:

Glock 43! I love this gun. My next will be a glock 26. Don't buy something that is too heavy to carry or you'll end up not carrying it. My first pistol was a Springfield xd full size and carried it for about a month before I slowly wore it less and less. Now, with the glock 43, I even carry it in my house or outside because it's so comfortable. Comp-tac.com makes an awesome iwb holster called the mtac. I can tuck my shirt in with it an you still won't notice it.

My FiveseveN rounds have no problem penetrating level 1, 2 or 3 body armor. ;)
-
IMO no better concealable gun then a Sig P938 or the 9mm version, I currently carry a Kahr CM9 that fits in my back pocket. Really think about selling it for a Glock 29sf 10mm.
-
I carry a Ruger LC9 with th built in laser in a crossbreed iwb holster. I carry a second magazine in my pocket. I love that little pistol, a lot.
-
As you can see there are sooooooooooo many good options, but, in my opinion, THE most important thing to consider is that you get something you'll actually carry everyday. Magazine capacity, knock down power, penetration, alllllllll that stuff don't mean dik, if your CCW spends the majority of the time in a drawer at home.
-
It's all personal. Some people pack a full size 1911 around all day with no complaints. Others feel burdened by anything bigger than a J frame.

Agreed with Carl, except my 1911 is a Sig Nightmare carry. Just remember extra mags.

Carry what is comfortable and accurate in YOUR hands
For me it's a glock 27 .40 cal!
For a concealed size and comfort is my go to for me being in the city, burbs or the woods I feel your 1st shot has to count and have enough knock down power to stop 2 and 4 legged assailants

When I was searching for a pistol for concealed carry I shot the H&K, S&W M&P, Taurus, and Glock. For me I bought the Glock 17 and shoot hydra-shocks out of it. I found that it fit in my hand better and I could shoot it faster and more accurately than the others. 🇺🇸

for me nothing beats a S&W J frame
-
1/10 of an inch difference in width between a xd9 and a xds, for the extra rounds, I'll take the 10th of an inch.
-
Here's mine
-
I carry a 1911 Kimber .45 single stack comfortably all day. I am a bigger guy tho but I am also looking for something different. Something with more ammo capacity. Been thinking bout the glock 19 but I kinda want something with a safety on it too!
-
Kimber Ultra Carry 40cal crimson Trace Grips
-
Wife just applied for a CPL for Father's day, after having me harangue her for years. Thanks Islamists and gungrabbers!
Next up, range and instruction time, and we'll be in the same boat.
-
The FN never really did it for me.
I like the Smith 442 for summer and quick trips to store etc and love the CZ P-01 for everything else.
The Glock 19 is a great option as well but I don't dig 43 or 26 as I feel like I need to reposition my hand after every shot.
-
I'd love to have the ability to penetrate soft panel armor but there's no way I'd trade the cavitation from a hollow point for it. :twocents:

Check out the Smith & Wesson M&P. I've shot them quite a bit along with glocks. They're nice guns. Very similar to glocks but they can be had with or without a thumb safety.

Really like my little Sig p238 for in town carry.
-
Glock 26 and a 17 mag for reload. If concerned about concealment, XDS 9mm or Shield 9mm FTW. All carried in an MTAC as well. I haven't found an IWB comparable to the MTAC yet. Always carry an extra mag.
-
I love my Ruger .357 mag., SP 101, 4.2 inch barrel. I can shoot .357's .38's, and bird shot out of it. Pretty awesome! .357 Hornady's at the ready for big game and self preservation. Love this gun with a nice grip special for me. I found a holster for it and ordered two speed loaders and a holster for those! I can have two different loads at the ready while in the field hunting. I'm so glad I happened upon this sweet gun.
-
I have carried subcompacts all the way up to a CZ SP-01. Just about anything can be carried with a good holster and a good belt. I generally end up carrying something in a mid size close to a 4" barrel and I like as much capacity as possible. Things like the Glock 19, XD or XDM, S&W M&P etc... Your general polymer guns with good capacity and easy to obtain parts.
My favorite holster is the Comp tac Minotaur IWB. It's similar to the crossbreed tuck holsters, but I much prefer the comp tac holsters.
-
Always love my SW hammerless but really liking my new SIG 290. Sweet little shooter and pocket size at that.
-
I have two that I like of mine one is the Sig 239 in 9mm and the Taurus PT140 .40cal both are comfortable and the Taurus won't break the pocket book either.
-
Kahr CW9
-
S&W M&P Shield or Springfield XD-S. Carry extra Mags.
-
Glock 23.
-
Glock 19 is my favorite, 9mm is a hell of a round, shoot good ammo. Rapid repeated trauma to the target zone.....16 in the gun, 2 spare 17 round magazines...50 rounds... shoot your way to safety...or more arms and ammo :chuckle:
-
Im not a glock guy just cause i cant seem to shoot them well. So i carry a mandp shield 9 with an extra mag.. for most instances i feel its adequate. Shoots well, accurate, and reliable!
-
then its perfect!
-
I have carried full sized double stack autos, compact single stacks in every configuration. Now, I carry the Ruger LCR 357 in either appendix or ankle - appendix 90% of the time. I can carry it without modifying what I would wear or need a ton of different holsters. It is by far the best combination I have used.
-
Love my sigsauer P9 38 super comfortable to carry

G19 or 43 if you want something even smaller or compact
-
Depends on where you are.
380 is fine for small towns. Put a rifle in your vehicle if you want more firepower.
Seattle would be Glock 19 with a couple 30 rounders in a bag plus a 44 for backup. Also some bear spray and a tear gas grenade. Totally serious.

I think that's the way we're going. I've been content with my wife carrying a 5 shot revolver due to the simplicity of it for years. I think I need to convince her to start lugging a semi auto and practicing magazine exchanges.
-
Glock fan here but something I don't think has been mentioned go get training from somewhere reputable.
-
I was never a Glock fan either, but then I tried the Glock 43 (9mm), and I carry it all the time now. Very concealable, so I actually carry it, and it shoots very accurately (in my opinion).
Good luck. The world is in fact getting crazy. Better to err on the side of having a good carry gun, and knowing how to use it well.
