How many lbs of tuna does a person usually come home with?
-
Obviously allot depends on the anglers on the trip, its a team sport as in the fish are not tagged per angler and at the end of the trip the fish on the boat are split evenly among the paying customers.
Average I would say is 6-8 fish per customer , fish vary in size and grow as the season gets longer, I would say they are probably a 14 lb average right now from the reports and pics. I would guess in a couple of weeks they will be around a 18lb average (obviously with fish ranging from 15-30 lbs in the mix)...my goal is to fill the boat on every trip which is approximately 800 lbs of fish and typically do but there are allot of variables as well.
I get my average weight based on last year I caught and sold commercially off my boat and had to weigh all the fish individually on each trip and record. Last year my first trip early season yielded 62 fish for a total of 915 lbs which is a average of 14.75 lbs. the very next trip I came home with 1,108 lbs and only 43 fish with an average of 25.76 lbs.
Obviously I had a much smaller crew and used a kill bag to hold some fish as well...I cannot load the boat this heavy with a full crew of anglers so that's why the fish total lbs are smaller. It would make the boat unsafe and I will not do that. There were typically on 4-5 of us on the boat... a charter trip is 5 anglers and 2 crew
Early season trips (like now when fish are smaller) the count is typically around 50 -55 fish.
Typically there will be 35-45 fish in the boxes.
If you are looking for a certain quantity of fish I always suggest just buying the fish from a fish seller that way you know for sure how much you are getting for your money but obviously its not as much fun!...but it is guaranteed amount of fish that way. I am not sure but I would say right now fish are going to be sold for around $2.50 per lb whole form most sellers but that is just my guess. This is definitely the best way to go if its really the fish you want more than the adventure.

I'd like to try and get on one of these trips. Any way you can update us if you have a seat to fill to make a full boat?

It's a lot. Last time I had 6 fish it was enough to last me all year.

30 ft custom built sportfisher, twin 300 hp outboards..typical ride is 2 hours out, 1.5 hours home..fish 3-5 hours...some days boat fills much faster just depends on fish and anglers...I have a solid bait fishing program but it requires teamwork and dedication from everyone to get the job done.
I am only booking full boats for this special, single point of contact, single point of payment..this is the cheapest tuna seats you will find (I am a quality operation I assure you)
dates available right now are:
July 7,8,9,10, 14,15,16,17
this does not include tuna cleaning (none of my trips do) but I have a deal with a local place at the port, fast priority service, $6.50 per fish paid direct to them or you can take home whole fish.

Since they showed up so early this year, does that mean the come august and September wont be any good?
Either way, I am looking forward to my trip mid august with you.
-
No, this happened a few years back and it just meant it was stupid crazy in August...lol... it only gets better (easier) when they come early like this typically... as long as the warm water and bait is here the fish will be here.
-
Dates left as of now are July 7th, 14, 15, 16, 17
-
July 14 and 17 are all that's left for the special price so if you are thinking about it I suggest booking now!

I can vouch for Mark he knows what he’s doing. He will not put you into a unsafe situation and he always comes back to the dock loaded with fish. Great guy and very nice boat.
