I Drew antelope buck & 2 doe tags!!
Good Luck all..
-
6/6 for myself and my daughter, can't wait. If anyone has unit 76 hints I would appreciate it. Our plan is to stay in Thermopolis and hunt the public land with landowner list as the distant second option. Our experience in 115 last year was great and with the Onx maps and a bit of Google Earth pre-scouting it seems relatively straight forward to find a couple herds.

struck out!

October's coming soon
-
Drew a Region F general and a doe tag. Somehow I managed to use my saved up preference points to get them :bash:

Had to go in the special draw, but I drew my buck and 2 doe antelope tags :IBCOOL:

Drew a any antelope in area 88!
First ever out of state application :)
-
Well that make 2 states that I'm a o'fer in draws! Guess I'll be doing an Idaho fly in hunt now.
It would be great if Montana doesn't let me down, my liver can't take to much more "unsuccessful" drinks!

My Dad drew one of the top pronghorn tags in the random

Hunt the public for bucks, if it gets difficult filling doe tags try the ranches with irrigated crops for access. If neither of those work, call the Cody Regional Office of WGFD and ask who is experiencing antelope damage in Area 76.

How'd that happen? you accidentally put it as your first choice? :'(

Cool! I haven't hunted 88, but have been in the neighborhood several times. Depending on when you plan to go, there are a few forest service cabins not too far away that would be fun to stay in for the hunt. Last two weeks of September are generally booked by now, but you can probably get in the first week of October or later. Let me know if interested and I can point you in the right direction.

Got screwed by the points monster again :bash:

Yeah, crazy that G is up to 6 points in the special, and H is 2. Even F requires first choice in the specials, wasn't that long ago (like 2014) you could pick up an F tag in September!

Ya I've always wanted to hunt that country but 6 special points to hunt something that residents can otc? I can't wait to burn and be done with that dang state
-
Isn't the whole deal with R and NR in WY the fact that there are only like 14 residents of WY and they just have to split up the NR pressure?
PS: I do hate me some "point-monster"!!!
-
I was reviewing the regular summary, not the specials, looks like G took <5, H <2 and F had leftovers in the special. So about the same as last year. Still, no question there's been a lot of point creep over the last few years, and it's not getting better.
-
Yep, were in, 2 buck tags and 2 does tags for NE WY.
-
Buck Deer and Antelope for me and my group!! Always look forward to a hunt where I get to see multiple shooter bucks in the same day..
-
Glad to hear somebody's drawing! Unsuccessful here, man the points creep the last two years has killed me for goats in the SE units... should have been a guaranteed tag. Leftover's for me now...
-
Party drew successful for region A deer. Sorry to those who didn't draw, I almost wish I could give up my tag!
-
If anyone will be hunting around unit 38, PM me.
-
No draw for me, coming up with a new hunting plan for the fall..... Maybe a ND waterfowl hunt? its not as good eating as antelope but still fun. Good luck all.
-
I must not understand how the leftover tags work...
There are 691 Region A deer tags showing up on the leftover list but not everyone who put in for it in the regular non resident points draw got a tag. I am assuming this means the leftovers were the undrawn tags from the special draw. However, if that is how it works then all of the other units that didn't draw out in the special drawn should also have tags (F, R, B, C, etc.). The only regions with leftover tags are A, J, M, T, and X.
What am I missing here?
-
I thought I understood how the draw works, but I looked and can't figure out why there are leftovers when it shows only 90% of the people with zero points drew region A as their first choice. Good question, hopefully someone can answer it!

How pissed is the guy who woke up and realized he blew 7 points on a Region A tag that has leftovers!
-
For all the talk about Wyoming regions sucking to have to draw with so many points as an NR, while the R can OTC them, heres the deal; I used to think the exact same, until hunting Region G in 2015. The amount of trophy class bucks I saw in my 9 day trip was unreal. When you are seeing 5+ 200" bucks a day (many at a distance that couldnt get on) its just crazy. It is definetly worth the points to draw. As for the R hunting it OTC, Wyoming has so few residents, it doesnt even matter, there isnt that much hunting pressure. Hope this helps for all, and changes the minds about applying there, the hunting is unreal

You are only looking at the regular draw odds. In the special draw (more expensive draw) only 192 people applied for 1342 tags.

The left over list just posted and there were 2 tags left for buck antelope in unit 1, I bought one and my buddy just bought the other one, so we are all tagged up and ready to roll!!
Now to decide which rifle to take for antelope and which to take for deer???? :IBCOOL:
.243, 7mm-08, 7x57, .284 Win., .308 Win., 35 Whelen.......life is tough! :chuckle:
-
What, no magnum rounds? Those antelope are faaast! :chuckle:
-
Woah--I didn't realize there was another round of leftovers that was released. Good thing I didn't because I would have snagged one of those Region 1 antelope tags...
Does this chunk of licenses get released at this time every year?
-
I don't remember this in the last few years. It may be new. @Bigshooter?
-
The leftover tags went on sale about 4 weeks ago, the buck tags. Then a week later the leftover doe tags went on sale. Nothing just recently that I'm aware of.
-
That page on their site looks different than last year, IIRC.

I'm not sure how it works. But I see there are leftovers in units that the first list of leftovers sold out in earlier. So it looks like a new list to me.

They had problems with the vendor processing the credit cards on the first day, so some tags were shown as sold initially but the transaction never went through. Wonder if some of those are now back on the list?

Yes--there were definitely a few new ones. I purchased a few a couple weeks ago and I just checked and saw there are now additional (and better :bash:) tags available in buck and antlerless deer and buck and doe antelope. Not sure about elk because I didn't look at them before.
I've got an essentially random handful (units 2-5) of doe tags in the northeast corner that overlap with region A deer. Unit 1 looks like the best unit around there for lopes, but unfortunately I've purchased my quota already.
-
I don't know what happened but the quotas for unit 1-1 antelope yesterday read 2 tags! I bought one it then said 1 left. My buddy tried buying the last one and was too late. Then after the doe tags were posted an hour later he bought a doe tag and then entered in the code for the buck tag and it let him buy one! Weird!
Anyway....to answer your question, I don't need a magnum because I only shoot slow antelope! :chuckle:
