Title: getting a new toy
Post by: demontang on February 03, 2009, 10:22:29 PM
I just got the OK from the wife to get a pistol, so I went and put some money down on a XD in .45acp. It has a stainless slid, a 4" barrel and comes with two mags, a mag holder, a holster, and a loader.

Those are pretty sweet for the  :twocents: My cousin picked one up mint with the stainless top and all the accessories .40 cal  for $429 @ Welchers about 6 months ago. Now I need to wait for him to get hard up for some cash. :chuckle:

I realy like the balance of the 4" barrle and you can change the grip to fit your hand. I wish I had the money for a kimber ultra raptor that I wanted but I have to many other things to deal with right now.

I wish they made a .45 in sub compact :'(. I realy like small carry pistols but the short 1911's are a little to much $$.

Nice! You're going to like it.  I picked up an OD green and black XD .40 a couple of weeks ago. Shoots nice and feels great in the hand, the only down fall to me is the trigger pull is a little long.

You can send it to springfield's custom shop and they can work the trigger over, I dont know how much that would cost though. For a carry gun all it needs to do is go bang every time and not jam.

Exactly! As long as it goes bang every time is right. Long trigger pull not a huge deal at least to have it worked on but it'll take some getting used to, still love the gun. Good choice!

I've been looking at them for over a year, I fell in love with the kimber ultra carry during hunting season and decided that I needed a carry pistol again. I think the XD is a great piston for the money, and it seems to handle really well.

Well I picked up my pistol today and got my concealed pistol permit after only 3 days which suppressed me because they said 2 weeks+.

Nice is your a compact model? I have the full size with the 4" barrel and I still haven't shot the bang thing yet, tomorrow I will definitely get a few rounds though it.

Nope, your not the only one who does not own a XD.  I also do not own a XD and I refuse to own one.
First it is made of half plastic, second it does not have a exposed hammer, (I like the exposed hammers), third it marked made in Croatia the top half says Springfield USA, (I guess they could not make up their mined US or Croatia).  I do not care where the gun is made, I wish they would make up their mined.

I have shot the XD and they are good.  Call me old fashion, I will stick to my 1911's.

Nah...  I don't either.  Well ok, I was actually going to get the XD45 Compact yersterday, when my car broke down. :dunno:  $70 Later I had a new battery.  Next payday I will take care of the XD...

Love my 4" XD, though I bought mine in 9mm. Took it out and shot an IDPA match with it the day after I got it, and did pretty well if I do say so myself. I've got about 750 rounds through it in 4 months, and I think about 10 different people have shot it... no FTFs, no FTEs, no problems at all. I couldn't believe how accurate it is. Oh, and it has killed one very large boar 'coon... took 13 rounds of Gold Dot 124 +P loads to stop him, maybe I should have gone with the .45!

I've got my eye on the XDm 9mm or 40 cal. The interchangable back strap is awesome for my big hands.

Seems to be a good value as well.

I have huge mitts too, so I thought the same. Untill I shot both the XDm and the standard XD... and found that I noticed no difference in accuracy or feel between the two. In fact, I liked the 4" service model XD better than the 5" XDm. If you want to shoot the standard XD in 9mm... and you're in the Seattle area, shoot me a PM... you're welcome to run a box of rounds through mine.
