Do they have any affect on the brightness or clarity of the image???
I'm getting into coyote hunting and it seems that you need every single advantage over those wiley critters that you can get. . .apparently the reflectin off of a scope lens or a gloss barrel is enough to send them running the opposite direction. . .

. . .but I have watched a TON of video of people calling coyotes in without an e-caller (remote or otherwise) and no decoy. . .granted I think you would probably have greater success with a remote e-caller since it focuses the coyotes attention away from where you are sitting, but it's simply not in my budget at the moment and I don't want to mess around with 60-100 ft. of wire everytime I set-up. . .I would make way more noise/commotion setting up the stupid speaker than I would just finding a good spot and using mouth calls. . .

Yes filters work fine but not needed and don't give up that much during the day but are noticeable in low light or overcast days.

Are you using a decoy to draw some attention away from yourself??????????dont matter if they see glare off glass or anything else they are lighting the afterburners.

I see them sometimes sold as segments, so you can build them out to a useful length. How much length can be added to a 40mm barrel and not affect light gathering on a 4X scope (4x-12x)? Has anyone done this installation, and liked the result (or not)?

Yeah, it looks kinda cool. I got the 2.5" length.
The diameter of the shade is slightly smaller than the original lens, so I had to "shim out" the shade diameter with camo tape to reuse my front lens cover.
