Was thinking about booking a black bear hunt with Bear Hunting Washington (Carl Windle is the guide), and was wondering if anyone had any experience with him? Thank you.

Get a list of several recent clients and ask some pointed questions. :twocents:

I hunted with Windle for 2 years in a row in 2013 & 2014 He has great area & Knows his stuff. I shot & never found a 6 1/2' bear the first year, My dad shot a 6'+ bear the 2nd year weighing easily 325 lbs. Hands down the best bear guide on the west side, he is a bit of a cocky guy & will tell you how it is. Sometime a little irritating, doesn't appear to have the best people / customer skills. But I wouldn't doubt his ability to kill bears. He kills a lot every year. Its worth the money, he teaches you a lot how to hunt bears on public land in berry patches & clear cuts etc.

Carl is a stand up guy he will put you on some of the biggest bears on the West side...I have known him for many years and have spent a lot of time fishing the rivers with him!!! If you have any doubts you can check his booth out at the Sportsmans show in Puyallup and look at his albums of bear kills... :twocents:

so i guess i have a couple questions...in the 2 years you and your dad have hunted with him you have only killed one bear.  do you stand by your statement that it is worth the money ?  and he is hands down the best bear guide  on the west side ?  i don't know what the statistics for bear guides in washington- or how you determine the size of a bear unless it is on the ground ?

A somewhat decent way to estimate the size is distance across the front pad and then add 1.  So if the front pad is five inches across, then it would be a six foot bear.
