Was he flooding the goat raffle?

What did he spend 5k on?

Groovy. I was worried you were gonna say moose
-
That northeast big game is mine..
-
Wow, 5 grand! I plan on buying about 100.00 worth, man I suck!
-
That northeast big game is mine..
I bought a handful of those too. You go all whale on that?
-
I'll get 10 or 15 just enough to dream for a couple of weeks. With mega mill at 500 mil it's hard to know what dream fund to donate too lol.
-
luv them raffles. mike w
-
I'd still love to see a 5 ticket restriction on raffles.
-
I'd still love to see a 5 ticket restriction on raffles.
I'd still like them to do away with draw and make it all raffle! Maybe compromise do away with draw and make it a 10 ticket limit per species.

If I won mega millions the world would be a better place. No doubt wolves in Washington would be on the endangered species list.
-
Dang I'm hoping to win with just a few tickets.

:yeah: at this point I'd be happy if they restricted to 100 tickets a person
-
That's crazy! Just getting a few myself.
-
I'd still love to see a 5 ticket restriction on raffles.
that would be sweet. But the state I think would frown upon that. :chuckle:

It only takes ONE!

Mmm... nope. I got more than that into moose :)
-
Why is it no one's all twisted up on these like the OIL tags when they are both lottery's?
Some one who ponies up a large chunk of change and then doesn't get drawn/ or has more chances in the bucket than someone else.

Bango I hope you get moose.
-
That makes two of us. I bought 21 ne wa big game tickets too. How crazy would it be to draw both?
-
I'm sure you have a couple of moose on the hit list. What species are going with on the ne big game. Moose bear and not sure if I'd do elk or cougar.
-

If im lucky enough to draw that itll be moose whitetail and elk. If i hit the powerball and draw both moose and ne wa tickets, then ill do whitetail elk and bear on the ne wa. Why would i take an extra cougar tag when ive failed every shot opp ive had on my general coug tags? Gotta learn to walk before you run

I am, but I've spouted off before to no avail. Apparently even if you only have 1 ticket, you still have a chance to win even though some other dude drops thousands of dollars on tickets for a single species, and that's good enough. So I'm all done spouting off. Limit the number of tickets. That's what I say.

That would make too much sense.
Also, the state would lose out majorly, or would they?
Could that spark more people to buy 2 or 3 tickets, knowing they'd have a honest chance?
Might be time for a formula....
-
Dont limit the number of tickets. Not yet at least. Sometime in the next few years if i havent got a wa moose tag yet, im gonna step in and sing my whale song day 1. After that i dont care. I just want a chance to go big first.

I don't buy raffle tickets at all for this reason. I'm sure I'm not the only one. If there was a limit, I would buy again. I'm again sure I'm not the only one.

Maybe they can do a trial year. Leave the current raffle in place, and set up another with a 5 ticket limit and see what happens. Who cares if 2 more bull moose get killed? At the rate the wolves are killing them i think moose tags in this state are going to start disappearing. May as well let us get while the gettins good.

I want to hunt a Washington moose so bad. Best system would be all raffle ticket style our current draw system stinks the system is kind of rigged against people's who's families didn't start putting them in young.
-
I buy one and this year it's going to be the lucky ONE!
-
I still think the state should have one moose tag that they straight up auction off each year (or even every other year). I doubt I would ever be able to afford it but I feel bad for all the old timers who pay in every year and have never gotten a chance. Maybe they could limit the auction to 50+ in age or something.

They do.
I think it usually sells for $10k-20k. This year maybe was a little more than that I think.

Jealousy is Rampant once again, as shown by many.
No matter what this State does they cannot make everyone happy. Be glad you can hunt the animals you do, and should you be lucky enough to hunt a OIL animal be very thankful.
There is a lot more to hunting than the Horns or antlers you put on your wall.
-
I didn't know about the auction, wow...
Don't mean to hijack the thread here but another quick question that's semi related:
If someone has private land, and they buy several moose from a legal source (say some zoo in Denmark or whatever), could they raise moose on the property for private hunts or would that be considered illegal in Wa?
-
WOW/WTF, I only buy just one or 2 raffle tickets, no wonder I'm a looser, but then again, I drew A SHEEP TAG AND A GOAT TAG BEFORE THE POINT SYSTEM. :dunno:

Illegal in WA

No jealousy here! I think its hysterical to piss away that much money on something thats not guaranteed.
As mentioned before and like I told the woman at Fred Meyer who was completely bewildered by what was probably the largest dollar amount ever spent in the Redmond Freddies ever, IT ONLY TAKES ONE!!!!!
good luck me! And you guys too :chuckle:

There is a poster at the retailer where I buy my raffle tickets. It reads" 50% of 2015 raffle winners purchased 10 or less tickets". Those odds aren't bad for a guy who buys only a few tickets. Anything can happen!

I feel like the "whales" didn't buy in like they normally do last year. I know the guy who drew the mule deer raffle and he purchased 1 ticket. I'm not sure the same could be said for 2014.
It would be interesting to look at those numbers. Maybe if I get bored later.

2015:
I don't want to sit here and count, so if there's a lot, I'm just going to say a lot.

Eastside elk-3
Westside elk-Lots(hundreds, clearly a whale)
Mountain Goat-10
Moose #1-2
Moose #2-30+
North Central WA combo-Lots(whale)
Northeast WA combo-6
Cali sheep-Lots(whale)
South central WA combo-Lots(whale)
Southeast WA combo-Lots
Three deer-1
-
6 out of 14 had 10 or less.
-
Added the large numbers to the counts. Some definite whales in there.

Some other interesting numbers...
The person who won the South Central Combo also purchased the following:
Blacktail - 91 @ $6 = $546
Elk (East) - 374 @ $6 = $2244
Elk (West) - 120 @ $6 = $720
Northeast Combo - 29 @ $17 = $493
Southeast Combo - 80 @$22.5 = $1800
Plus his winning
South Central Combo - 627 @ $17 = $10,659
Grand Total = $16,462
The person who won the Southeast Combo with 50 tickets had purchased 300 for the Northeast Combo.

Odds are better for raffle than they are for OIL's. I bought my first ever raffle tickets this year. Spent about $100
-
I like how wdfw has been keeping tabs on how many tickets have been purchased. They have been pretty good about it until now. I guess they want more people to purchase. Last update June 27. Bs!

Wish they would update the totals, I'm thinking I'm going to buy a few tonight. Give myself a few more weeks of dreaming of an epic hunt here in WA.

Odds are better for raffle than they are for OIL's. I bought my first ever raffle tickets this year. Spent about $100
:yeah:
So I do have a chance. That's the way I'm starting to look at it. Kinda like :fishin:
-
I do have a chance, but it is in the neighborhood of the valve lash on YZ450F.
-
Here's the math on the last minute raffle buy-in shenanigans... :chuckle:

I went large for my little bank account this year. I've got 53 tickets for Blacktail. I swear I'm gonna cry if I get another "NOT SELECTED". :bash:

LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE, IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG TO CRY OVER $318. :lol4:
-
I'd still love to see a 5 ticket restriction on raffles.
It's free range, it isn't "Gender" :chuckle: specific. It isn't for the soft, weak or mild. Pony up or get out. Nothing like a camera hound asking for restrictions?
Some can pay to play some can't? Maybe some should pay for their ride. Other than tagging along.

It still doesn't appear that they've updated the website to check. I know they said the call the winners, but in the past I seem to recall that the site was functional fairly soon after the picks were made. But then again, it seemed like the picks took longer.

i think all the winners have to have excepted the tag. So if someone hasn't responded yet they have 15 days to respond. If that's the case there is still hope for those who didn't get the phone call. The lady who does the calls said the results should be up this week. She may be waiting to Hear back from one of the winning tickets.
-
I was told there was one winner without a phone number, so we're waiting on snail mail. :chuckle:
-
So far, I haven't gotten any info from WDFW (other than the phone call). Any idea when paperwork should show up?
-
Got a second call yesterday, said they talked to biologist, all is good and putting in the mail and I should receive shortly

I see the results posted. The E. Elk winner was also drawn for moose. But he laid down some cash!

Two raffles in a year? I may actually buy a few next year. At least one eh?

I see the results posted. The E. Elk winner was also drawn for moose. But he laid down some cash!
699 tickets for E. Elk = $4194 (20%)
1032 tickets for Moose = $6192 (37.4%)
100 tickets Cali Sheep = $1150 (2.6%)
136 tickets for SE Combo = $3060 (9.1%)
Total = $14,596
He definitely laid down some cash!

I agree. If I had $15k to spend on hunting, those two tags would be well worth it. But to spend $15k essentially gambling on the tags takes some balls or some serious deep pockets.

Yep. Only the number of tickets they bought in the category they won.

Winner of the goat raffle bought 83 tickets? I am thinking Bushcraft bought over 2,500 right? He came in 3rd and 4th. I would like to know how many the 2nd place guy in the goat raffle bought.
-
I would too. I'm not going to raise a stink about it, but I did an analysis and found what appears to be a statistical impossibility in what should be a completely random drawing.

Bold statement bushcraft. Can you explain?

Let me take a stab at explaining it Tbar.
Not all computer derived random number generators are created equal, or all that random. Like all software, the output is entirely dependent upon the input. Garbage in, garbage out.
Success percentage anomalies can and do occur with relatively few randomly drawn numbers, but they quickly begin to dissipate and approach normally expected percentages. For example, if you flip a coin ten times, it's entirely possible and shouldn't be considered all that surprising if perhaps as many as 7, 8 or even 9 of the 10 first flips came up heads. But, the more you flip the 50/50 coin, the more your heads vs. tails aggregate count will quickly approach 50%.
In this case, I owned approximately twice as many goat raffle tickets as everyone else combined, or 65%. What's interesting is that my aggregate "successful" draws throughout the computer generated drawing didn't approach that number until exactly 3,106 (or 76%) of the total tickets were drawn. That is MUCH higher than 1,000...which is the number generally used to establish a large enough sample base to consider something statistically viable. That is odd. Not getting close to the 66% after 2,000 is odder still. Having to draw 3106 tickets to reach the aggregate 65% threshold is totally bizarre IMHO. Also note the odd consecutive extended decrease (non-draws) occurring between 940ish to 1220ish. I'm not quite sure what to make of it all but it seems to me that it would take many thousands of Monte Carlo simulations (randomly re-do the entire draw) to generate this bit of strangeness.
One further...I know a guy who purchased half the tickets sold once and he claims the system didn't register a successful draw for him during the first 50 "randomly" generated computer draws. How's that for something that makes you go hmmmmm? ;)
Given the amount of money everyone in aggregate throws at these raffle drawings, I'd be a strong proponent of going back to a publicly auditable manual drawing of at least the top five tickets per category. Who knows what sort of coding their outsourced black box is really using?
-
Just buy more tickets next year.
-
Clean livin
-
I know that if I dumped a truckload of cash into a system and was playing my odds, upping the buy in to increase my odds...... I'd want to make for certain that everything was on the up and up. Math should be math. I wonder if buying 2000 tickets in 100 ticket lots would make a difference. Granted, I realize it shouldn't, but skimming what Bushcraft said, it makes me wonder.
I'd bet if you asked the right people, you could get some answers.
-

Here is where I got the info:
http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/permits/raffles/lookup.html (http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/permits/raffles/lookup.html)
And the SE Combo winner is not listed on the website. I didn't realize that until you brought it up. That is interesting. I wonder if they are having issues with that drawing or contacting the winner?
-
numbers are very telling, the odds of winning anything with just a ticket or two are virtually nil, gotta pay up if you want to have more than a minuscule chance of winning.
-
After seeing those numbers I will take long odds next year over the no odds I had this year. I never entered before but some guys are winning without the investment, might as well be me!
