Title: Need to take off some weight? Eat lots of eggs.
Post by: pianoman9701 on July 09, 2016, 07:43:22 AM
I've lost 30 lbs in 80 days, half of it in the last 30 days by eating eggs - 3 eggs, 3 times a day. Here are some of the ways I cook them and what I serve with them.

Fried over medium - top with different cheeses, sriracha, soy sauce or sea salt and pepper
Poached Eggs with butter, cheese, etc
Scrambled with olive oil or truffle oil, sea salt, cheese, Vietnamese fish sauce, white shoyu soy
Boiled with dijon mustard (like a deviled egg without the mess), or some soy, or smashed up with mayo
Soft boiled with butter and sea salt or shoyu
Basted in bacon grease with 3 strips of bacon (not very often; maybe once a week). Shredded cheddar or sriracha.

You can use ketchup once in a while but it's loaded with sugar. The other thing that i do as a matter of my regular diet is no processed sugars of any king - white, brown, turbonado, powdered, or substitutes. I use only organic honey or organic maple syrup to sweeten anything. I'll cheat one day a week and have some sausages and two good beers - IPA or something similar. It kind of resets the clock and helps speed weight loss for the rest of the week. But i don't go too crazy even on the "cheating" day.

So, besides a low to no carb diet, what exercise do you do?  Grats on the 30lbs by the way

All I can really do is upper body weights, crunches, and back lifts for lower back strength, and yard work. Even then, I have to stop 2 or 3 times while mowing our small front yard. The hip just hurts way too much.

Great job, Pianoman!  :IBCOOL:

I lost 40lbs this year by eating a very protein rich diet (egg whites, protein powder, eggs, chicken, sirloin steak, etc)... All good food and less carbs.

I, too, struggled with hip pain. I learned to start doing hip flexor exercises each day with my workouts and within 3 weeks, that hip pain subsided. It's amazing. Just do some of those exercises.

Without the carbs which make your liver retain and create fat, cholesterol should decrease. In addition, I use eggland's best which has lower cholesterol and adds Omega 3s, which also lower cholesterol.

My sister is morbidly obese. Some years ago, she lost quite a bit of weight doing this. I did a little research and in about 2000, I did it for about 3 months and lost 45 lbs in conjunction with daily exercise, getting ready for elk season. My cholesterol and blood pressure both dropped considerably during that time. I had had a 250 cholesterol and a blood pressure of 140/90. At the end of that period, my cholesterol was 210 and my BP was 120/80. I did eat other proteins and almost no carbs. I took a gammaglobulin test on Thursday and on Friday it came back with a blood sugar level of 85, which is healthy. I was formerly at 105 in April; not quite pre-diabetic but not great. These are non-fasting numbers.

Get reduced sugar ketchup and mix it with hot sauce.

Man you need to build a chicken coup bud!  We have chickens.  Very happy with the net result.  Cheap, easy, healthy.  I think you would need at least 10 layers to keep up with your appetite!

Nice to loose the weight. But the cholesterol overdose of 9 eggs daily would kill you fatster that being over weight.

The body needs carbs as long as you get enough excersize :twocents:

I'll have another cholesterol test in a month and will let you know. I fully expect to see a drop as I did the last time. And no, you don't need carbs. Man subsisted for 10s of 1000s of years without much more than meat and plants. When your body doesn't spend all of it's time processing carbs, it processes fats and protein.

You don't need carbs. But a small amount of carbs with 1 to 2 meals a day helps in processing certain fats.  It also helps with cravings when going to a low to no carb diet.
I'd also suggest scrambled eggs in coconut oil instead of butter.  The flavor is totally different than anything I had ever tasted.  Adding spinach was good too.

Nice work. That is a lot of eggs and if I did that, the gas would be terrible. My two cents are that you are on the right track but it's not the eggs that are doing it but more that you are increasing protein intake and reducing carbs and sugars. I wouldn't hesitate to swap out some of those eggs with chicken breasts, fish, lean red meat etc. A strict diet doesn't have to equate to a boring diet. I would also recommend taking a look at what carbs and fats you are consuming. A healthy diet needs both of those to maintain a good cholesterol level as well and blood pressure.

If you like soy sauce, you haven't lived until you've tried tea eggs. I got hooked on them when I was in the Far East. Every 7/11 you walk into has them in a crockpot by the front door.

I am doing this also. Lost near 30 lbs in the last 2.5 months. I see a lot of posts about cooking the eggs in olive or coconut oil. Just use bacon grease. When you get rid of the carbs you need fats to maintain energy levels. Don't be afraid of the saturated fats. They are the supermen of the fat world. First to get used by the body. The key is to get your body to stop using sugar. The only way to do it is by limiting sugar intake as low as possible. Have one non-diet soda and your body will immediately shift back to sugar burning and fat storing.

I have high blood pressure and needed this as a lifestyle change. It takes getting used to. Very difficult to stop the desires for pizza, sandwiches, pasta, and potatoes. But you learn to deal with it. Heck I will order a pizza and just eat the toppings. Leave the crust for the trash. If you are pre diabetic or type two diabetic this is a great normal diet. Without the carbs your pancreas stops pumping out insulin to control your blood sugar. Insulin also forces the body to store fat which is why we gain weight. Since the body is always trying to regulate sugar levels on a typical American diet we get the highs and lows in energy. With this diet you get a steady burn throughout the day and don't need those 5 hour energy drinks anymore.

Best part is I get to eat all the meat I want. Steaks, sausages, chicken, pork bring it on! Just make sure to level it off with veggies and you are set. Cheese is another thing that you can have within reason.

A by product to this between myself and my girlfriend is no more gas or bloating. No more desperate need to get to the bathroom. Heck, she would never eat eggs because of the gas, now she eats them like candy with nothing. Same with me.

Another great way for the eggs is to cook some bacon chunks with onions, peppers, and mushrooms and then add the eggs when everything else is done. Add cheese and you are eating well.

Happy living everyone and only 40 days till elk season in Utah. Add 20 more days for home.

I have all the free fresh eggs I can eat but eggs make me sick.

I have now eliminated wheat soy eggs and dairy potatoes and most corn I eat a small amount of fruit and my diet is almost solely chicken and kale and lentils, white beans and some rice  with lots of veggies right now its asparagas and zukes and brocoli.  I dont typically drink soda mostly water, plain tea, and black coffee.  I use grapeseed oil and olive oil and a ton of spices.  Its a sort of boring way to eat/live but I feel less sick most days.  I have been at this since february and started working super hard physical labor back in April, I have lost 15lbs"ish" and on any given day my weight still fluctuates 4-5 lbs so tracking weight loss is really almost impossible.  I envy people who can just go on a diet and start working out and lose weight.  I used to be able to just stop drinking and lose 10lbs.  I never dieted.  Now I am just trying to find a diet that isn't painful and causes me illness.

Nice work Pman keep it up!

I just started back on my calorie watching. I've done the low carbs before and they do work but over time the low calorie is easier to stick with, for me anyway. Last time I lost 90 pounds watching calorie intake and exercising, took about 8 months. Probably the best shape I've ever been in, my 15 year old nephew couldn't even keep up with me on the MT bike trails  :chuckle: Hoping to do even better and keep it off this time.

Great job Pianoman! I've been eating low carb for a year and a half now and I've lost 70 lbs!! It definitely works and as others have said it has cured any bloating/stomach ailments that I had when I was eating carbs... I don't eat anywhere near that many eggs, but stick to fatty meats and veggies and all the mayo and oils I want.

PS...Crushed up pork rinds make an EXCELLENT replacement for breadcrumbs. Used them to make some fried chicken a few weeks ago and even my guy who doesn't eat low carb LOVED it!

Scotch eggs don't need any flour or bread crumbs.  Just wrap sausage around the egg and bake them.  I went back to low carb eating a couple of weeks ago and am 10 lbs down so far.

I also bought several bags of pork rinds.  I wonder if you can roll the scotch eggs in them.

Pork rinds, never would have thought of that, thanks for the tip. I love taco salad but without some kind of chips it sucked. I am down in San Diego working and no tortillas is killing me. Just can't have Mexican food without carbs.

Got any recipes for that pork rind Fried Chicken. That sounded tasty.

You should try making a meatza. It's a pizza made with the meat acting as the crust then the sauce and the rest of what you want on the top. I've been dying to make one myself.
Getting back to eggs, I've been on this kick lately with cooking my eggs where they're barely cooked. Slow cooked, still a little slimy, scrambled eggs cooked in lots of butter and too much salt or very soft boiled eggs to the point I have to be super careful not to break through the egg white when I peel them... haven't gotten sick yet  :dunno:. One of my favorites is turkey, tomato, avocado and egg on top of an English muffin with hollandaise sauce, of course you could omit the bread if your watching you carbs.

that meatza Idea is awesome. ive been doing this diet called code red with my wife, lost 50 lbs in 3 months so far. similar to what your doing, just no sugar or carbs, no dairy, and a gallon of water a day. eat bacon and eggs every day for breakfast, and protein and vegies for dinner, haven't been doing lunches for the last 2 months, without carbs, I don't feel as hungry as often. it doesn't even feel like a diet to me like others have, I don't feel like I'm missing out on everything since I can eat a lot of my favorite foods still, I.e. bacon... lol

Way to go on the  :bumpin:

I just started a Whole30 diet this morning.  30 days of no added sugar, dairy, grains, alcohol, or legumes.  The no alcohol sucks, but everything else is pretty easy.  Did the same diet last year and lost 15 lbs.

+1 for egg-heavy diets!  They are a seriously underappreciated super food :).

Starting January I did the low sugar No Bread or dairy thing. Worked out 5 days a week. Preparing for two spartan races in one weekend. I did the races but energy was hard to come by. I only needed to lose 10 pounds. But I think I needed more calories for energy? Still working on the same diet but will eat more calories. And being summer time, I will still have a drink or a beer on weekends only

No need to restrict yourself of any macronutrients as they are all important. It is all about calories in and calories out for weight loss. Eat enough protein and healthy fats each day and fill the rest of your calories however the heck you want.

So I am on the Weight Watchers Freestyle plan.  30 lbs in the  last 30 days.  No exercise other then active at work and yard work.  Degenerative arthritis in both knees kind of hampers things.  I eat eggs every morning though.

I’m down 40, did the keto diet. Found a good meal plan. I did hit a plateau but I bumped some carbs, did some turkey hunting and that helped my body gain some muscle and loose some lbs. My goal is another 25lbs but I would be happy at 215 if I ended up there.

Nice thought but no. Older couple and we no longer have or want any living thing depending on us to keep them alive and healthy. Winco lays just as many eggs as I need. :chuckle:

If you have one near you, Cash and Carry seems to always have eggs on sale.  Last sale was 15dz for $12.99.  I think the most I've ever paid for them there is 15dz for $18

Perfect time for this to pop up! Definitely needing to drop a couple (30+) pounds. Time to hit the woods as I can't stand "going for walks" or the gym. Adding protein and trying to cut most carbs out and see how it goes

3 hybrid Red hens and a 12$ bag of food.  You will have 3 eggs a day for 2 years.  Build a chick tractor for range healthy eggs.

Everyone is different and we all have our own goals. what works for one person might not work for someone else.  I think the most important thing to do is find a way of eating that works for you, that is sustainable, and that you can do for the rest of your life!  The problem with a "diet" is that its usually short term, and after people reach their diet goals they tend fall back onto old habits. Sounds like a lot of people are on the right track. Good job Pman!!! thanks for starting this thread too, its one of the most positive ones I've seen in a while!!

Unbelievable, John.  Congrats.

You have to feel a ton better and I'd assume the hip is better?

My body is certainly taking less of a toll with the weight loss. The hip is alternately good and bad. I've all of a sudden come to the reality of being 60. The hip is great if I'm lazy and don't do anything, but I get winded in the field from a lack of stamina. IF I work too hard, the hip screams at me for a few days and the result is similar; the hip hurts after a few hours of walking in the woods. I need to find the sweet spot. And maybe, I need to adjust to becoming an old fart and review my expectations in the elk woods. Getting older sucks hairy spheres.

Remember,  we don't run after elk!  One step at a time is all it takes!!!
My mind still says I can do it, but the body sure does hurt!!!
