Any reports of fish at willapa bay and when do you guys start fishing there and what's the limit this year for salmon there's do what is the mix bag limit my concern is I see its 4 adult salmon so my question is can it be all hatchery chinook or 2 chinooks and 2 silvers or if u have the choice can it be all silvers it don't matter to me what I catch I would like all kings to keep cuz there bigger thanks for your time and thanks to everybody that helps out people
-
As of Aug 1st, the limit will be 4 adult salmon, but release wild chinook. I haven't been down there this year yet, but I believe it was early August when it started to heat up last year.

Is it 2 hatchery King and 2 silvers or can it be 4 silvers or what's the mix of the 4 adult salmon for the day
-
It can be a mixed bag, although I would regularly check the emergency rules changes given last year's low coho return.
-
Only one hatchery chinook will ne allowed. They are starting to catch them off Washaway beach at the yellow can.

Why don't you look at the regulations yourself? It's one thing to ask how the fishing is, it's another to ask a question that you can answer yourself in 1 minute after consulting the regulations.

To be blunt, it's lazy to ask a regulation question without attempting to understand on your own first. if you have access to post on this forum then you have access to the regs online. The regs are always "right in front of you".
I am here to help fellow sportsman and hopefully receive help myself but I expect people to put in some basic research first before asking a question. I see it as respecting people's time.

So you went to all the trouble of reading his post and then blasting him for asking a question because getting irritated at him is easier than answering the question? These days you almost need a lawyer to read the regs and know what is really legal. Maybe he was double checking to see if others read it the same way he did.
-
The subject of the post was not regulation related, it was about Willapa Bay, in which I am interested. If he was just cofirming his reading of the regs, it would have been helpful if he had said that in his question.
I agree the regulations are often confusing and bouncing interpretations off of others can be helpful. With respect to Willapa Bay, the regs are pretty clear on daily limit.
And I also agree, this isn't worth beating to death, this is the last thing I have to say about the regs within this post.

-
My god! Someone always has to make a pissing match out just about everything here anymore... Pretty sad.....
-
Leroys ramblings has good info. Willipa is an awesome fishery just wish you could bonk wilds realty sucks having to release beautiful wild kings when you can keep them a half mile away. The Labor Day derby is a good time.

Ya I know some people just take things the wrong way I read the regs from the book and things always change in fishing and sometime I don't catch the changes and then my main concern on willapa bay is the mix of the fish for the daily limit
-
Geeez SteelheadTed really :dunno:

:yeah:exactly, I have read the regs a million times and it still isn't to clear!! Better to be safe than sorry..

-
Looking forward to the report.
-
Had one hit early in the morning that was all. Talked to a couple other gents who had a couple of hits also. Heard of one fish caught out by washaway. Hopefully their was more.
-
My buddie finnaly made it out on Sunday July 31st idk how he did but once I find out I'll post a report I was in Idaho with the family at the silverwood theme park so that's the reason of not getting the report for Sunday sorry everybody
-
I live on the bay and there are a few fish being caught. I don't have time to go out myself this time of year but the locals that I see everyday are picking them up.
-
My buddie finnaly made it out on Sunday July 31st to willapa bay he saw 1 net go up for 50 boats that he can count his next trip is on the 10th so hope by then it gets better
-
Anymore weekend reports
-
We were out there yesterday and didn't see a single net go down. We had two bites, but both at high tide when the bait ball, birds and seals came rolling into the bay. All was calm and quiet after that.
-
I think my buddie is fishing it today on August 10th see if I get a report today
-
So today my buddie went out to willapa bay and fished washaway beach he only ended up with 1 for the day but he said it was slow fishing today fish are not tottaly in the bay yet to start seeing limits of fish in boats
-
Thanks for the update. Keep them coming. It's definitely not like it was last year. Hopefully it turns around soon.
-
My god! Someone always has to make a pissing match out just about everything here anymore... Pretty sad.....
:yeah:

Man it seems slow every where, we have been to the point 3 times from sun up to noon and only 3 fish and a handful of crab.. Has anyone been out to buoy 10 yet?

My buddie that has been going to willapa bay is really good friends with Clancy holt and he's been in touch with Clancy last few days and Clancy told my buddie it's also slow at buoy 10 to so it sounds like rough fishing everywhere and the last time he talked to Clancy was this past Saturday

Ya that's true it's no where near like last year
-
I fished bouy 10 on sat and Sunday. It was slow but they were picking a few up. I went 0 for 2 on sat and blanked on Sunday. I have friends fishing until the end of the month. They picked a few up today. Not on fire yet.

Ya it will be a interesting salmon fishing this fall it's weird why everybody it's not hot fishing everywhere maybe there's something to do with the ocean conditions could be doing a lot affecting the salmon survival because I remember last year I would have freezer half full in salmon from willapa bay cuz it be hot fishing at this time of the month next trip for my buddie is this Friday lets see how fishing is then
-
B10 is picking up. Don't forget that B10 doesn't typically start hot like it did last year. It's traditionally got going mid-August. We had a ton of fish and hot water last year to get things going early. I got a Willapa report from yesterday that sounded better than it has been. The tides are getting much better, so it should be good this weekend.
-
Ok so my buddie was out fishing yesterday at willapa bay at washaway beach and some fishing near buoy 2 he hooked in to one but lost it at the boat
Today's report I got 3 guys I know fishing in different boats and 2 boats are at washaway beach with no fish in boat but they saw some natives get released and the 3 rd boat is fishing near buoy 2 and had 3 hookups and had to release 1 and they lost the other 2 I will keep updating thru out the day they are still fishing out there
-
Update 1040am my coworker text they got a double hook up at washaway beach and landed both and they were keepers
-
I got out there today with friends. We had one nice native, and another nice keeper out at Washaway. Definitely not blazing fast, but they're coming in.
-
B10 wasnt great today we ended up crossing the bar and trolled up and down long beach. Caught 1 nice keeper chinook and release 1 great native coho. Had multiple missed fish too. But inside wasnt great.

-
I finnaly got out with my buddie today we dumped boat in at 815 since high tide was 1132 am we hooked 1 wild fish in the first 20 minutes and then we got 1 keeper King and lost 1 at the boat and missed 4 other bites we talked to one other boat at the dock and they had 6 keepers in the boat but they were there since daylight
-
Were you guys fishing bait or spoons, hoochies? Do you guys fish with downriggers when it's that shallow or do you use delta divers? Congrats by the way, we fished the point in a derby again , we caught 5 but nothing legal, the one that we did catch that was legal was an inch to short :chuckle: terribly slow out there, we were on the water at 4:45am and the derby was over at 2 pm we just kept on fishn until 5 though, it was gorgeous out there on the water
-

No down riggers on boat and we fished plug cut herring and no divers
-
My buddy boated 4 yesterday.
-
Heard the grass was minimal and shiny things where popping lines off downriggers.
-
Ya the grass wasn't bad yesterday and the water condition wasn't bad either until u got further out by buoy 15 at washaway beach I'm looking forward for the next trip hopefully there is more fish in the bay
-
Are any of you guys fishing the derby out there the weekend after this one? We are heading Friday the evening before.

Nice ya if I fish the derby it be the first derby but I don't think my buddie will be doing the derby cuz it will probly crowded
-
So my fishing buddie had one of his friends was fishing today in his own boat and high tide was around 130 today and it didn't sound very good today he didn't have no hook ups today
-
I fished Thursday and Friday got one Thursday on high and one yesterday on low. Benn fishing one hour before both tide changes otherwise there is so much moss and grass its hard to fish.
-
My cousin and I went out yesterday ( the 20th ) and got skunked, 14 fish got checked in by 4 pm which isn't very good out of the amount of boats and half of those were caught outside and no real size to any of them, the biggest being 15 pounds!! Washaway got fogged in real bad and the exchange was big. The grass was bad the further you got to toke point!! We fished from sun up and came off the water at 3:30 we wanted to fish longer but had stuff we needed to do :bash: Hoefully we get a big rain pretty soon, we need a new shot of fish to head in.. If that happens the derby should be a good one, weather dictating of course!!
-
I had a coworker go yesterday for the 344pm tide him and his dad fished mainly above north river at marker 29 that had 4 take downs and lost 1 at the boat he saw one landed for about 70 boats from what he can see anybody else try these late tides
-
So my good buddie that is a dad to me he had a friend fish willapa bay and this guy is pretty good fishermen and he got skunked today on augustb21st I guess all he had was a few take downs and no hook ups
-
Anybody fishing the start of the better tides I have a buddie going Wednesday and Friday for sure and maybe Thursday
-
Not me, I think I am gonna hold out for rain before going there again, heading to Astoria Saturday to fish from meggler to buoy 10, it's been going on out there pretty good for a week now..
-
I fished this mornings low and got 2 keeper kings have,nt heard of any silvers. Still lots of grass and moss you have to constantly clean your lines been better fishing since the minus tides are over we fished 3 hours other boats were going out to fish the flood. Saw more fish caught the last couple days than before saw gillnetters sitting around so don,t know when they have there opening or even how long the willipa is open.

How deep were u fishing and did u see anymore nets go up on other boats? My buddie is going fishing there tommrow so I'll also have a update tommrow at some point in the day
-
Its been hit or miss buddy got two on high last night and two this morning early. I am going in the morning early you just have to be on top of cleaning your gear its a pain but if you want fish its a must. Also we have only been using 12 to 14 pulls a lot of guys are fishing to deep and dreging up moss.
-
So my buddie and his son went Thursday and Friday they brought home 1 King each day and lost 3 on Thursday and lost 5 on Friday it was hard for his son to keep line tight anybody else fish this weekend
-
Yesterday and today sucked for a lot of boats. Hope it picks up by friday
-
The rain predicted for this week wil liven things up.
-

-
Lots of feesh but most (not all) with lock jaw.
-
We laid em low 2 weeks ago, fished/camped down there for 10 days. Went yesterday fished from 7-4 not a bite. Saw 3 caught at 1030. 3 fish checked in on Saturday for the derby....
-
We fished the derby, caught one 8 pound silver and lost an equal sized one right at the boat, there were like 618 people that bought tickets and like 52 fish checked, top one was around 24 pounds, the launch was a zoo but very entertaining :chuckle: saw some real jacknobs trying to launch and pull out, seen a nice boat to boat wreck at the dock.. It was a great day for fishn just not a lot bitin :chuckle: better than workn though
-
Had 4 lines in the water for about 7hrs today without a single takedown.
Didn't see any nets in the air either.
-
I'm sure this weather moved the fish towards their ultimate destination.
-
I am afraid it's not happening this year fellas. Same result outside the bar this year.
-
See a lot of people fishing at tide water on hwy 6, don't know if they are catching anything, but they are leaving plenty of garbage in the parking areas.
