traveling to Utah for mule deer pics!! Leaving in less than a week to the Henry's, pasagunaut, and the island for vacation.. Gonna try and find some bucks while hiking around.. Very excited to hopefully spot and photograph some giant bucks!!
-
Nice - do you have a digiscope set-up?
-
Last I saw, a good part of Antelope Island was on fire. Not sure what the latest updates on that are.
Edit...sounds like the fire is out and no evidence of any animals lost.
I wonder how the auction tag guy is feeling right now.

I have a dslr I'll use most of the time unless I can't get close.. then when I'm just sitting at the camp I'll have my spotter with phone scope..

Yes I called and its contained and they are still camping on the island just not allowing much activity where the burn was as of this time.. We will be on the island for only two day then spending majority in Henry's and pasagunaut..

Take a ATV there are trails all over the pauns. Lots of red cliff views also. great way to get around.

I wish I could say I was hunting, just going for photos and some fun hiking trips.. When I get home I'll try to post some pics for everyone!!

It will be hot! My advise, having photographed mulies in the summer for 25 years is to get up and photograph at daylight. You'll have maybe an hour and they will be bedded for the day. Then you can photo at dusk for maybe a half hour to an hour. The middle of the day you can hang with the family and throw back some beers but heat waves and conditions will put the bucks to bed all day and make them unshootable. It's always fun though!

That is the exact plan, will be up well before light to position myself and in the evening.. Going to kayak throughout the day.. Most likely will be watching some bed down and may put a little stock in them to get pics also.. I will be meeting other photographers throughout the week to catch up and go photography some bucks together as well..

As stated, awesome photography, thanks for beautiful view of nature. If you had a tag and saw those bucks, it would be nerve racking to decide on which buck to harvest. Were those Burrowing Owls, looks like it?
-
Some nice character down there. Thanks for sharing. Got a lot of us drooling!!!
-
Great photos and good job on getting into some awesome bucks!!
-
Great pic's, incredible deer! So, where do I apply to hunt this place? Do they give out tags?

:yeah: Been saving points in Utah, I would use them for a tag in that area
-
Guess its time to start applying for Utah!!!!
-
Grew up in Utah. Haven't experienced the same type of hunting since we moved here :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
Great pic's! Looks like most were taken on the island? They've got a heck of a gene pool going there.

It's all in the 1st post, Jerry.

Thanks everyone!!! Most pics are from the island but there is a few from the Henry's, a flash flood came through so we finished there very quickly.. Will be going back another time to specifically there.. Some pics are from Oregon, Idaho too.. I'll slowly be posting up pics from other units in Utah that we were able to get pics of also..

It was nerve racking just being there with my camera I couldn't possibly imagine if I had a tag.. Being wishing 50yards of these buck was a completely different perspective than I would have ever thought!! It was a great trip and I'll be doing it within the next two years just different time of year!
-
Very Cool.
-
Absolute gaggers.... :yike:

Not hard to see why that antelope island tag goes for so much money ever year. Henry mtn. are famous for those flash floods you encountered. Two of my brothers nearly had to wait a week to get out a few years back when one hit while they were down there. Amazing how fast some of those dry creeks turn into raging rivers in that part of the state.

It came quick and the river bed had nothing on the way in on our way out it was already a foot deep of clay with about 18" of water on top of the clay.. There were a few other groups that were probably stuck for a few days I'm sure! But it was worth it.. Lol

Couple of cool shots my girlfriend grabbed while out photographing
-
one more for today..

Is this that buck?

Wow, I spent a couple autumns on Antelope Is. At the marina. Was fishing brine shrimp. Saw the bison roundup, but never found time to hike up and look for deer. I could see a fire there being hard to put out.

They had to put out a fire that was roughly 14k acers the week before we went there!! I was very nervous we wouldn't be able to make it on the island but it was out within 3-4 days.. Thanks pianoman!!
