Could be. I think they are getting their butts kicked by the Sig rangefinder.

I should get my sig kilo in the mail by early next week.  $408 shipped to my door!!  I looked at both the sig and the Leica side by side and couldn't justify the added cost of the leica.  Hope the Sig is what it says it is over the life of the unit...if so the decision will be easy when it is time to replace it.

With that being said....That is a good deal on a great unit.

They've always been fairly common at that price on camofire a couple times a year.

The sig would be completely unbeatable if they would have included weather capability into it.  :twocents:

FWIW:
My son and I compared the Sig and the Leica side by side in a Sportsman Warehouse parking lot this winter in Idaho during a mixed snow and rain storm with light fog. The Leica ranged twice as far as the Sig in those conditions. My son bought the Leica this spring and was completely impressed by it's long distance quick readings, so I purchased one and got it a couple weeks ago. With the Leica I was able to get readings through a space between trees on a distant mountainside from my front deck that no other range finder has been able to do before. So far we are both very impressed with the Leica 1600-B.

There are a lot of sales right now with many companies trying to move product!

:yeah:  kind of like comparing apples to oranges.  Sig is the best all around unit there is, but for a guy who is shooting long range and needs weather data, the Leica is a better unit.

For the money. maybe

The Vectronix stuff is the best I've ever used.

I googled to check them out, sound really good, but probably too pricey for most hunters.

I bought the Sig Kilo 2000 and took it out yesterday. The conditions were overcast and windy but I ranged a big rock at 2200 yds and got a slash pile at 1810 yds. I ranged a buck at 970 yards. I like the read out and the scan mode. This is a great rangefinder at a better price than anything I can find comparable.

I hear that Vectronix stuff is alright, but it's a little over rated. Last time I was out with one I couldn't get a consistent reading on a white rock past 3240 yards in bright mid-day sun with wicked mirage. I had to actually range the base of the tree behind it to get the 3285 yard reading. Absolutely unacceptable if you ask me. I'm told that the Sig Kilo is so good it would have done it faster, more accurately and made me coffee while I waited.

I'll bring mine in January and we can burn through a set of batteries just playing around with it.

I heard this spring Leica is coming out with a new rangefinder. With the different deals I'm seeing I believe it. As for the Sig I think it's a better rangefinder for the hunter that hunts archery and rifle since it will do angle comp under 100 yards unlike the Leica. My brother had both and sold his Leica. He liked the Sig better. I've never used it so I can't compare. I use the Leica.

Regards, Branden.

Getting long-distance readings is only part of the battle. Getting accurate readings of the object in question is more difficult.

The divergence of the beam, and the ability of the user to accurately highlight the desired object (using 7x magnification in many instances) can both make ranging accurately at very long distance extremely challenging.

It is relatively easy to range a flat, stationary object. In hunting situations where there may be multiple animals which aren’t necessary stationary, and potentially unseen obstructions like a tree branch or twig it can be tough to get an accurate reading on the specific animal.

I can range houses and billboards at two miles with a Sig, but if I wish to know the exact distance to the vitals of a deer sized animal at 808 yards (and not get 798 or 818), that’s harder.

The problem with Vectronix is those SOB's stopped making the only "affordable" rangefinder they made.  And what really pzzes me off about them is I knew well in advance that they were going to stop making their Terrapin model and I STILL didn't buy one.  :bash:  Yep, those Vectronix rangefinders are junk, wouldn't own one if they gave it to me.
