Title: Storage and gear totes
Post by: SteelheadTed on August 07, 2016, 07:10:36 PM
I am looking for more storage totes like the one in the photo below.  It is a Rubermaid tote with a piano hinge on one side and clasps on the other.  It has been a great tote for hauling gear for outdoor activities.  I can't find anything quite like this.  Rubbermaid has their ActionPacker series but it isn't hinged and a similar product by Plano isn't hinged either.

Surely I just haven't been looking in the right place and these are still available?

Try looking for foot lockers. I think the action packers in certain sizes have hinges as well.

I have to agree with the quote above.  I own many of these exact totes, they are great for gear and transport as well.  they have small wheels on one side if you want to slide them around the garage, they stack perfect nesting together and are a great size to keep things manageable.  Walmart online price up a little though.  I used to buy them online for $33 for a pair.  After I picked them up there would be about 10 for sale in the store, but for $20 each, price has leveled out.

I must have ten of these now, not just for hunting but changing out all my other totes.  They are more square and the other advantages I listed above.  Just label the outside and breaking out gear is no big deal any more.  Boots tote, cold weather clothes, warm weather clothes, rain gears, etc, etc, .......

One last tid-bit.  I also take a couple to camp.  One for a table next to my cot and the other (extra clothes) under the foot end of the cot, body does not touch it.  I think they are excellent.

These are the ones I use as well.  I've got a couple for dry food storage (keeps the squirrels etc.. from picking on your muffins/bread etc...) and then a few for hunting gear.  Like they stack nested and are pretty durable.

I keep all my hunting, camping stuff and food stuffs in totes as well, but I use the clear ones so I can see what in in each one when stored.

They don't have hinges, but Costco has black ones with yellow lids that are very strong and something like 6.99 each.  The lids snap on much tighter than the Wally versions.

Plano makes camp totes like the purple/green pictured above. I bought mine at Home Depot.

These are the ones I have. They work awesome. Similar to what's been posted, however they seem to be heavier duty.

Hard to find in stock though.

I have 5 different sizes of action packers. The larger 3 all have a hinged lid.

Yep, this is the way to go IMO. Made my life a lot easier since going to the clear ones.

Problem with clear for foodstuff is you gotta keep it out of the sun or you get condensation issues etc...

I never thought of that,  I keep all my cold stuff in a cooler.
my totes are always in my tent or under my folding table that is under my 12 x 12 popup I use for a camp kitchen.

I use the action packers.  I like the latches.  I also use buckets with screw on lids from Home Depot for smaller stuff.  More money but take up less space, and buckets are always handy

When I started using totes, it was because I got tired of looking for all my camping and hunting stuff and taking so long to pack and unpack. With the totes, I usually have 4, and a couple coolers, I can pack my truck in just a few minutes and be on the road to hunt in no time. And when I get back I just replace the consumables (batteries, paper towels, TP, etc... and I am good to go.

Here's the best I've found.  A little heavy but it's beefy!....
