I was drawn for multi season but there was a glitch when I bought my license so I got stuck with a modern tag. But now I don't want to use multi. I still haven't gotten a deer in year 3 now. I'm debating whether I want to do archery again like last year or modern like the year before.
I saw deer during archey season, but they flashed by and weren't available for shots. I never saw them during modern. However, I want to try Okanagan this year. Which weapon would be best suited for this area? I'm imagining modern due to having wide valleys to camp up at the top and take shots down at. However, I don't like sitting still for long, so I preferred archery for stalking.
I need opinions!

I prefer archery for two reasons, early season the deer are pretty calm, haven't been pushed around a lot so your chance of getting close is better. Second reason is there is a late archery season and if you get snow that concentrates the deer and you have a more target rich environment.
-
If you have the available time then Archery, longer season all around.
Learn to sit still for long times and use your glass and or sit travel routes :twocents:

I would go rifle! You get up early, drive around for acouple hours go back to camp, have a couple bloody marys and take a nap!

Definently go modern. That Okanogon country is way to wide open to be archery hunting it. This coming from a archery hunter........ :chuckle: Oh ya no shortage of camps to stop in and have a drink or three.

You forgot to mention: around 10:00 AM, shoot off a couple of magazines of ammo at nothing in particular... (at least that's what people seem to do around here).

Archery. I don't like sitting but have learned to hike hard locating and scouting and appreciate the down time to rest, sit and stalk. Take a nap, wake and presto deer in a cut or meadow! Has happened to me few times. Better season and times and animals not as skittish. It keeps you in the woods longer too!

I'd go archery. Then you can fling a bunch of arrows at every deer you get to within a hundred yards of and still feel ok that they got away and that, that small amount of blood you seen was just a flesh wound and they will be ok. Oh you can also snub your nose at every other hunter because you bow hunt. Plus the truck stickers are way cooler for archers

Honestly? Modern, I gotta give it to the early bow guys, something to be said for a fella that hunts in the 80 degree heat in all their cold weather gear and by sun rise they are in tshirt and shorts, hats off to you fellas

There's nothing better than still hunting in September and early October in only a T shirt!

Heck ya! I have lightweight gear just for those hunts. I am freezing cold when I head out first thing. If you are comfortable when you head out before dawn you are in big trouble come 8am.

Ext buck for modern on the westside is good or late season archery on easyside is good, if ur skinny= archery, if ur fat= modern

Really? Hmm. I admit at least with modern You can put your crosshairs on every pumpkin in the clearcuts and fling bullets 999 yards with an old 30-06! Shoot at brush moving and sit in your truck all day on a hill getting drunk until the Warden busts you for having a shell loaded or shooting from the front seat..... Then if you get lucky you can tell the whole world what a great hunter you are while sitting at the bar as your gun is stolen from your truck in the parking lot!

I like having road hunter in late archery season on the east side. They keep the deer In the steep and deep were I am. Once they see a buck they jump out of the truck and chase them to me!!

Just a little sarcasm. I didn't take kindly to the archery jab thrown! We should not trash each other or other methods as we are all hunters trying to enjoy support, and continue to hunt. I have seen bad apples under all trees; so to speak.

I agree. My bad, sorry.

So, I guess we're sticking with this answer then??
-
Yup, archery it is. Maybe I'll hit up the NE corner instead of Okanagan if it's too open. I haven't tried switching tags yet and today I got that email that all sales are down.

hunt modern... us bow hunters don't like the crowds, and it's getting crowded....
