Title: Happy kid.
Post by: STIKNSTRINGBOW on August 20, 2016, 01:29:08 PM
I have to admit, I really dropped the ball on this one.  :sry:
My daughter won a free trip with Beacon Charters as a kids fishing derby prize in April, but somehow I seem to have lost her voucher. :bash:
My communications with this charter service have been pretty disappointing and I am very reluctant to book a trip for both of us at regular price even if I could afford it.
She really is interested in catching a salmon, so I was wondering if I could find someone with a couple extra seats, I would be more than willing to pay fuel, bait, beer, lunch, etc..as long as it is under $200
I would let her reel in any fish hooked, I have caught a few fish in my day (just not recently), and let you keep any fish retained.
She is 13, so it would be quite an experience for her, and relieve some of my guilt.
Available Sunday and Monday at a moments notice, I can ask for Wednesday or Thursday off work if we have time to plan.
River, or Ocean does not matter, as long as it is within a few hours of Chehalis.
She has her own rod/reel, but we have not put line on it yet, would like to make some memories..

Was the derby sponsored or put on by Beacon Charters, or was it some other group/organization?

If someone else, maybe contact the sponsor group and see if they have record of who won what?  Maybe you could get another certificate for it???

Good luck!

Are you interested in the Columbia River (Longview). Monday will be a good day weather wise only 71 or so. On the hook with wobblers. It might be early but we might get lucky. No smoking - No drinking (a beer or two is OK) 17' Alaskan XL

It was the Black Lake Kids Fishing Derby (trout) Town of Ilwaco.
Mostly I just got a sense of the charter company not really caring if we went or not, even before I started planning, slow response to my questions, and a general lack of desire to sell me a trip.
Then when notified about missing voucher, no response.

As someone who works with customer service, I really just would go with a different charter if I were to be paying full price.

Big thanks!
Looking forward to a day on the water, and some pictures of my daughter with a big fish!
That is really what she wants, getting a little bored with 19" trout, and wants a "BIG" one..

When I woke up to my alarm, I was a little concerned because it had been going off for a while and I don't ever like to be late.
But all my fears were dissolved when I went to wake up my daughter and she was already awake and almost dressed and ready to go!
She grabbed a quick breakfast while I had a cup of coffee and my only cigarette for the day (no smoking-per "thegeneral"s rules)
We met him pretty close to 6:30, I usually like to be a little early, but am never late.
Quick transfer of the rods, and off we went.
Short wait at the launch, pretty uneventful.

The "American Pride" paddle boat made a pass by for a little entertainment.

And we watched our rods...

Then a boat drifted by with a fish on...

But fishing was kind of slow, so Brigette took a little nap.

Post by: STIKNSTRINGBOW on August 23, 2016, 10:24:16 AM
Then the rod in the back started jumping around and we woke her up!
FISH ON!!

I don't know who had a bigger smile, me or my daughter, but this was FUN!!
The biggest fish she had ever felt on the end of her rod, and what a fight it was putting on!!

... And then we lost it..  :'(
A little disappointed, but still excited, Brigette was all smiles when she said she would have eaten that fish..
Maybe we will get another chance..
But it was just not meant to be this time.
We fished as long as there was a tide, but no more bites..
Quick ride back to the launch and a much needed restroom break, my daughter had a good time, we are very appreciative of the effort put out by our captain "thegeneral"
Brigette understands that fishing is not always catching, and is very appreciative of the opportunity.
It was a good day, and I cannot thank our host enough, who even refused my offer of fuel for the trip, I did buy him lunch, but he never ate it, and went out of his way to show us a good time.
Thanks again!!

STIKNSTRINGBOW great pictures and a very good write up. Bridget did a great job of fighting the fish and I'm so thankful that I didn't knock it off with the net.
It  was pleasure having the two of you aboard was enjoyable I just wish there had been more chances.

That doesn't sound like a problem to me.
Considering I don't get much Salmon opportunity, it is kind of a problem.
But who knows? we might get another chance sometime...
Combat fishing from shore is just not that much fun with kids, especially when I am not that experienced myself.

Lots of non-combat places to fish and catch fish.  I hate combat fishing with a passion.

Not really de-railed...
Kind of a hint for another nice person to give us a chance.  :chuckle:
Thanks to "thegeneral"s generosity, I still have fuel costs in my budget.. hint, hint...

A framed print of that one with the salmon in the air would make a neat gift for your daughter.

That failed net attempt would make a good one also, look close and you can see the wobblier in his mouth.
StringBow got a couple great shoots.

I have an open seat for either sat or Sunday.  Which ever one works better for you stickstringbow.  It will be bouy 10 fishing out of chinook wa.  My boat is the water and waiting to go.  I'm fishing with my two daughters 7 and 9 years old but have plenty of room for the two of you.  I will take care of all expenses and leaving the dock by 530 am both days.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160826%2F1e0358fdd0d41283323307273c20b417.jpg&hash=07247c97535536cffa499411041d68f01bbc7c8b)

Only problem is that I work Saturday at 1:00,  :'(
Was planning on heading for Naselle on Monday to set up camp, camping Wed and Thursday.
With this offer we could fish Sunday, even though I will be closer (Naselle) Monday, Wed, Thurs...
Still worth the drive just to boat a fish, even if we cannot keep one.

Thank you for thinking of us, maybe some other time?
