Little bro decided to come toward me from the other side of the ravine and I caught his eye and pointed in the direction of what was making the noise, he turned his head and glassed, then raised up his rifle....I could tell he saw something but from my angle I couldn't see anything.
Turns out the bear I called in was about 130 yards down, but due to his angle I couldn't see it, Johnny could however. But no shot, by the time he felt comfortable to take it, the bear had moved towards the woods, disappearing into the brush. I call for a bit more, no luck, so we decided to try to cut the bear off from below. We head back to the logging road and head toward where we saw the bear head. We ended up busting the bear, heard us walking or winded us, it bolts back the direction it came. We decided to split up and I headed off skirting a cut. Walking very slowly, nearing dusk, the mosquitos were trying to carry me off. Heard some branches breaking 30 yards ahead of me or so, saw a bears head walking. It paused, glanced around. I walked up to it slowly, at a different angle. Watched it for a bit, the bear moved up and across a log jam maybe 20 yards, (I was planning on taking my bow, but didn't due to room in my little civic I decided to take). Raised up and fired, the bear basically jumped and piled up about 5 ft away in a hole (of course). By the time I had it gutted, lil John had found me and helped drag it out. We tied it to a tree limb and yarded it out the mile or so back to the rig.
Really a nice time hanging with my brother, calling in a bear and bagging one, couldn't have asked for a better bear hunt.
Boned it out and skinned it last night, teeth are worn, damaged, flat and yellow. The bear has a cool red stripe down the back, pretty good hide for this time of year. It was not a huge bear, but a mature one, average size for Wa.
Best of luck to all the rest! Now, my step son has passed hunters ed (just last week) we are going to get him on a bear ASAP. I would have this week, but he was at his dads.
Sorry for the crap pictures, I was more worried about all the mosquitos eating me than I was about pics.
