Title: Bear down need quick answer.
Post by: steeleywhopper on August 29, 2016, 11:22:34 PM
I shot a nice bear tonight. I got it quartered and skinned but the last 40 yards the stickers were to thick and steep. Will the hide be OK over night or will it slip? I know the meet will be fine as it cooled nicely? I'm still on the hill 448gmu

I would assume that if it's not too terribly warm out ..   it should be fine.      I don't know for sure ..   in guessing here .   Do you not want to do multiple trips ?

Shot it at 7:39pm, back home in bed at 3:05 am. Is there such thing as a quick drive to go look for a bear? Quarters cooling in the big coolers and hide in freezer.
That was the nastiest 75 yard pack out ever! I owe my hunting partner big time! We are both cut head to toe from the 6ft tall black berry bushes that kept trying to kill us, shredded my new pair of First Lite pants, my buddy works in 2 hours but man it was awesome.

 Hey if you ever need a hand getting a critter out, I'm not far away.  Give me a shout. Could have brought a machete or brush trimmer. Good work by the way!

I shot one out on the coast a few years ago across a canyon I feel your pain I was pulling stickers and scratched to hell for weeks. I said I would never do it again ....... The next year I caught my self sitting in the same spot looking for another haha

Non iodized salt has been my friend when hair slippage has been a worry.  I am not sure if it is 100% fail safe, but we used to do a lot of bear hunting and so long as we got all the meat off and used plenty of fine feed salt we never had any problem regardless of the weather

Wont be able to get the pictures until tomorrow, they are not the best photos as we had light fading and a hell hole to work in. Thanks all for the replies last night.

Today I look back on it and say "Man it was worth every ounce of pain". Last night it was "oh man Im not 23 any more and this is the worst".
I cooked up a couple steaks off that bear tonight and it was the best tasting meat I think I have ever eaten.
