So my 14 year old daughter started high school this year. First day of school was opening day of archery. First day at a new school takes priority so archery season would have to wait until the weekend.
After attending her first high school football game Friday night it was on the road to eastern Washington. Late arrival and Saturday morning was a tough one. No deer in site so this is how she spent much of the morning.

Deer or no deer those moments are the best ! YOU have your daughter going hunting with you that's awesome congrats
-
Saturday night we saw a couple of bucks as we drove the roads, one was legal, but they were all on property we didn't have permission to hunt. She was a little disappointed but Sunday was another day full of hope.
Sunday morning came early again but there was something in the air, we both had a feeling today was the day.
On the way to the blind we spooked a deer but it was too dark to tell what it was.
We settled into the blind about an hour after hunting hours began I saw a buck come over the horizon headed towards us. I had her stand and get ready. It took what seemed like hours for him to get there. When he did he turned and looked right us. I whispered "stay calm, he'll turn and you can draw". Again hours passed or minutes but he finally turned, I said draw and let out a "eh" to get him to stop. He did and she let him have it.
He ran 20-30 yards, wobbled, ran another 20 and disappeared behind some trees. We heard a crash and then nothing.

I have a ton of pics just like that. Always a fun time.

Big hugs and congratulations. A call to mom on the radio to come help and onto the trail we went. I knew it was dead but let her do the tracking just for practice. I hope to always be there but want her prepared if I am not there to help.
First blood.

-
Thanks guys. I really am a lucky guy for sure.
For those of you that don't know when I started dating my wife after just 4 months it was deer season and she said, "if this is going to work you are going to have to come deer hunting with me." :yike: That's right, I wasn't a hunter but she was. I passed the test and we have been partners in everything for the last 22 years.
My guess is the cycle will continue with my daughters. They will be intimidating for sure but any boy that can get by that should be a good one.

Nice work!

Thanks and double thanks for turning me on to the rig. It has been working out great, we keep finding new uses for it. We used it to set up the archery shoot in August and after we got the deer back to the cabin and skinned we used the Can Am to haul trees around the property replanting. And of course the kids love driving it.
-
Right on!
My Thing 1 drew a rifle doe tag this year. It'll be her first real hunt. Going to load up some 6.5x55 ammo with her this week so we have enough for both target practice and the hunt.

She is unbelievable.
She took hunter ed at 8 and turned 9 the week of class.
First year hunting we stayed simple and really short hikes. She was such a trooper I worked hard the next year to put her in the best position for success. Since that first year she has shot 4 deer(one year she had a second deer tag) with a gun, one cow elk with a gun and now two deer with a bow. She definitely gets that from her mother. Mom is a great hunter and has been knocking down animals since she was 9 or 10.
Little sister is up next with a muzzleloader. This will be year two for her. Year one she shot a whitetail.
-
You're doing it right, good job Dad! Raising a couple of strong, self sufficient women. We need more like them out there.
-
I love reading stories like this!!! Congrats to your daughter and family for getting it done. My 7 year old has proven to me that he can handle some hiking so he will be tagging along with me for the early rifle season this year. Hope to be creating memories like this for many years!!!
-
That's awesome!
-
Congrats to the young lady on a fine deer!!
-
Got the meat all cut up Monday night, backstraps cut into steaks and in the freezer. Dropped the head off to Bugs and Bones in North Bend for a euro mount Tuesday night. Gave the heart and liver to a friend this morning. Dropping the rest of the meat off for jerky and pepperoni to B&E meats tonight.
Looking forward to get them all back.
