I ran into a problem several years ago where Hevi-metal loads were short of shot.
I was assured the problem was taken care of, Bull!
Note the concave crimp. The one on the right is terrible and the one on the left is even worse.
These are NOT reloads and came right out of a new box that had not been previously opened.
I will have to cut the bad one open along with one that looks ok and see which component(s) are missing
Screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me! :bash:

Here's a pair of shells from several years ago, with the same problem. They are a bit dusty from sitting on a shelf in the shop.
-
A few years back when shotshells were hard to come by I had some just like that. They were lousy, but they were all I could find so I used them.
-
I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of the shells I bought this past season. All of mine were BB steel shot and they had bulges all over the shells. Out of one box 17 shells would not fit in any of my shotguns. They did replace them, but were a pain to deal with. I wrote that company off for any future business.

Hevi metal is over priced and doesn't pattern very well. Blue box federals are where it's at, just ordered a couple cases for $99 a piece.
-
I am just about to buy two cases of shells for my son and I. I am leaning towards black clouds. I don't know what blue box Federal are. Should I do that? $99 sounds good to me?

It's the Federal loading that comes in a blue box.

yeah follow the link that was just posted. No tax and free shipping. Can't beat it. They pattern pretty well out of my Benelli. They are dirty shells but not any worse than black cloud.

I know the hevi-steel 20 gauge were not fitting into my son's gun. Then two seasons ago, they had the big recall on all the shells as you had many duds in the box. They said the wad caused it and it was due to low temperature. Didn't make sense on that one.

Hevi-steel sucks.
Horrible powder.
Stunk up my gun and took me forever to clean it.
I bought a case of Fiochi.
-
We hunt the saltchuck a lot, and the Hevi brand loads have an open crimp allowing water in to the shell. This also makes it an issue when its raining super hard...
Kent fasteel has yet to let me down.

Did hear back from Environ Metal on the issue. They are working with me to resolve this issue.
Where they did respond to my email, We are one step ahead of the situation of a couple of years ago.
I will let you know how it comes out.

One step ahead because they responded this time?

Yeah, they recognize that there is a problem.

Oops I have a case of heavy metal 1st home from last year guess I need to burn it up early this year. I had a bad case of Kent shells 2 seasons ago.
-
I've had the same issue with black clouds, over crimped. I even had on box of #2 black clouds that had crimps folded completely into the wad and no shot. The sent me a voucher to replace them, nobody would take it. Kent is good but tends to rust faster than most shells. I tried a box of the Remington Hyper Sonics, don't like them it sheared a magazine retaining plug on one of my guns. Winchester Blindside is OK but too pricey. I do like the blue box or red box of Federals, I have not had an problem with them at all.
-
Federal red box is all I shoot. Now that Rogers has it back In stock after last year when I couldn't get it I tried fiocci warlock and wasn't impressed. My gun didn't pattern it well and I had a squib load and I only4 boxes.
-
The shot charge is by weight not volume so keep this in mind also. The crimp could be better, I agree but they've shot darn well for me for 4 - 5 yrs now. Early to mid season I shoot Kent without a hitch. Over 15 yrs w/Kent - no problems.

Winchester has been nothing but issues. Between me and some friends we have had five different shotguns of different manufacturers have issues with Winchester shells.
