I cant believe it. I drew another once in a lifetime tag. South Dakota trophy bison in Custer State Park. Time to dust off the old .338 Win Mag and see if its got another one shot bison kill in it. Most of the Trophy bull hunts are producing Boone & Crocket record book bulls, this should be fun. If it is half as fun of a hunt as my Wyoming wild bison hunt I am stoked to get going.

Lucky dog!!!!!! Congrats
-
That's just awesome! It should be a great hunt.

Congrats.

I got my email from South Dakota today confirming my hunt dates. Looks like a mid December bison hunt will be on my calendar. Time to start firming up plans now.
-
Should be as classic of a bison hunt as you can get.
Hopefully you can share the adventure with us.
-
I'm back from South Dakota after a very fun and successful hunt. I hope to get some time in the next few days to post a story and some pics.
-
Been looking at this hunt can't wait to see the pics and read the story!

-
Wow!! That is awesome! I am unbelievably jealous!

-
Awesome bull! Congrats!
-
Not much more classic American West than hunting a wild bison in the Dakotas!
-
That's an old warrior. Better buy 2 freezers.
-
I've no idea how to judge a bison but that looks to me like a huge animal! Congrats, can't wait to hear the story.
I may be extremely jealous and looking into applying for a bison tag.
-
This killer !
-
That's awesome!
-
Those tenderloins gotta be larger than a bucks backstraps. What a beast.
-
My daughter & I right before one of the other bulls from the bachelor herd of 23 came back looking for trouble.
-
The only way to handle & load a critter that weighs over a ton.
-
We tried to get a better look at this bull to age him but he was not cooperative. When they are on the march through the timber it's hard to keep up or get ahead of them and we eventually lost him.
-
This cow was having a bad horn day. We found a horn from an old cow that she had somehow knocked off, not often you find a shed bison horn.
-
Great pictures!
-
Wow! Looks like a great time!

Man what a beast, nice job.
How were you able to prop him up for the pic?

Let me assure you, even with three people it wasn't easy. :)
-
The hanging weight of the quarters, actually six pieces because the shoulders were removed so it could cool out faster, was 950 pounds.
-
That is awesome. Congratulations.

Meat turned out great, It hung for two weeks and is excellent table fare. Not nearly as tough as I feared it might be.
-
Did it take only one shot?

Did it take only one shot?
2 counting the insurance shot, it was still trying to lift it's head a little.
-
Curious as to what the other oil tags were?

Very cool! They are such cool animals! Congrats again. You going to pick it up? Or paying to ship it?

I'm not positive. A friend will be making the trip back from there with a utility trailer the first week of November, if nothing else he offered to pick it up.
-
That's convenient!
-
Curious what his head weighed....
Can't imagine trying to pack that out of the woods. I can see the meat with several trips.....but that head!
-
I'd imagine it's like carrying half an elk??? :dunno: I thought a ram head was heavy but looking at that it's got to be more than twice the weight.

It was $250 to have it shipped, shoulder mount, skull and the tanned back half of the hide. It should arrive on Tuesday. I cant wait.
-
very very cool.
-
Tracking his progress home, he hit Seattle this morning. I'm getting a little anxious. :)
