Title: Grayback 388
Post by: Grizzly556 on September 10, 2016, 09:39:31 PM
Looking for a new deer hunting spot this year with my Dad. We have always been able to hunt on land on the East side with my grandpa, but unfortunately he passed away last year. We we're looking at the 388 GMU in Klickitat County. Anyone hunt down there? Is it mostly Mulleys or Blacktail? Is there good access in the Soda Springs Wildlife Area? Thank you for any info you can give.

That is consider east side now so the game dept considers those mule deer now. Have hunted there alot and i still consider them blacktail.  Yea soda spings is a good access point. There is also land at the base of the pass

The deer numbers are no where near where they used to be.  I hunted there for 20 years and killed a lot of deer down there.  I haven't hunted out there for three years.  Much better areas in eastern WA.  Those deer are more blacktail than mule deer.  I have seen one true Mule deer the rest are benchlegs/blacktails.

Number are way low like stated and there is a good amount of pressure from hunters as well. Is there deer? for sure but they are not around every bend that is for sure.

They are classified as mule deer but they are pretty much bench legs. A inner breeding between black tail and mule deer. In 382 we get a few with a whitetail mix as well.

The cats in the area are also not helping the deer population.  Sad to see that area declining so badly.
