Title: Fanny Pack?
Post by: AlbinoRhino on September 12, 2016, 02:07:09 PM
After opening archery I realized my cheap pack just isn't gonna work.. I've never really used a pack when hunting but after recently switching to Archery I bought a very inexpensive field line from Walmart.. Fast forward a couple years and this thing is killing my shoulders.. I only pack my calls bugle small first aid kit, water, power bars, space blanket, knives, maybe a pancho or a jacket.. I have bad shoulders anyways from sports and I'm looking for alternatives..I don't hunt the back country yet and a majority of my hunts I'm in a few miles where if I need to pack something out I could potentially walk back to my truck and call for assistance..

Naturally a fanny pack with shoulder straps seems like an upgrade in quality and comfort.. So does anyone have suggestions? I've seen Alps Tenzing and others make different models but wondering if anyone has any personal experiences .  Someone has also told me that they make fanny packs with the capability to pack out game in a game bag but not sure..

Thanks in advance

Fanny packs are great as long as you don't need to or try to carry too much gear. I have tried many styles, some to the systems that offer shoulder harness with them seem like a good idea but I'll just carry a pack if I have beyond a certain amount of gear to carry.

What about getting a backpack with a waist belt and putting the majority of the weight on your hips?

Not opposed to that idea I was just thinking that for the amount I carry a 900 cube FP would work also haven't seen a full pack with hip straps for the same value

Hunted 20 plus years with only a fanny pack. Loved it for the light weight and convenience. Finding the best pack for your needs is the tough part. Most today have too many add on pockets or too much padding in the wrong places. My pack was made of fleece so it was very quiet. Bought it online many, many years ago.
