I keep reading about folks using apples but regs say no Baiting ?? :-[

Personally, in this instance I do not care what the regs say. Baiting, in my personal opinion, is not ethical. We are hunting not fishing. Opinions vary though.
-
Might want to look at page 86 of the regs a little closer...

Did you just crawl out of a cave or what?

Seriously....this topic comes up at LEAST 4-5 times every year. Does anybody ever consider using the search function?

I know! Man heres some proof: I asked wdfw through email and here's what the said.
Dear Mr. Berkompas,
Thank you for contacting the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
I don't see a previous email from you, so I apologize for the inconvenience and the delay.
It is not illegal to feed deer in Washington. If you intend to hunt, you would need to follow the restrictions under WAC 232-12-245. Bait cannot exceed 10 gallons and they cannot be placed within 200 yards from another bait site. For more information on baiting, visit: http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/2016/wsr_16-04-126.pdf.
Sincerely,
Wildlife Program

Nope, sure don't seem like it....
-
Just typed in deer and bait into the search function. There were ony 7 pages of baiting topics. I would have guessed it closer 70 pages.

It's a simple question. We don't need to beat him up, and we certainly don't need to relive those seven pages of results for baiting topics.
As others posted, the regs don't say "no baiting' anywhere. You just need to read the regs more carefully and fully to understand the intent.

I like to start with WDFW resources.
"Deer bait"
Search.

Sheesh.... the guy asked a simple question.
Some of you people clearly haven't killed anything in a while.
-
I bet he regrets asking the question by now!

Maybe I should start another thread asking the same thing on this topic so it at LEAST comes up 5-6 times this year, knowing now that it bothers you.. :hello:

There has to be someone that can chime in on how to be a Master Baiter and get this one thrown into off topics.
There, I said it, that's out of the way.
Carry on.

Does this make us Master Baiters? :dunno:

Close, master baiters know that you can get more apples in each 5 gallon bucket if you cut the apples in half or in quarters. The deer appreciate it more as well. Not that I am admitting to being a master baiter, I'm just sayin'

You've got more than 10 gallons. The Bait Police have been contacted. :chuckle:

At least I have a pic of the perpetrator to be sent to the clink for life without patrol for such an offense. :chuckle:

It doesn't really bother me....It just amazes me how many times the topic gets discussed. BTW- Are mechanical broad heads legal in Washington?

Could you imagine a topic discussing baiting, hunting out of treestands using mechanical broadheads and lighted nocks all at the same time?
-
Can we add hunting on islands to that mix? :chuckle:

If you add that those are being fired from a crossbow, the internet would...

I am amazed that the search function seems to be ignored on all kinds of subjects. One of my suggestions to make this forum better is some kind of organised best of threads on a subject.
There are several automotive type forums I frequent my current favorite is jeepforum.com some one took the time to add great posts in an organised manner to categories that were especially informative or complete DYI instructional. Something like that here could be done as well. Possibly a "best of" for each category of hunting. I think that forum is so well organised with information I haven't had to ask any questions, & I've used it to do lots of mods to my xj and trouble shoot problems.

The only problem with not asking any questions is we'd pretty much become a library instead of a discussion forum.

I get that, but we both know that there is some awesome knowledge and experience that has been shared and preserved on here. Some people will always been to lazy to look for it. My point is that it would be great to highlight the best of the best.
I also like to read C/Ling best of from time to time for a chuckle.

Wait we can hunt out of treestands? Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm thinking about starting a small food plot for blacktails. I plan on hunting the archery season. What baits should I use? Can I hunt on the islands?

You do know that ALL baiting will become outlawed within the next five years don't you?. People might have to learn to hunt again :yike:

I couldn't help it :chuckle: But I think it is pretty enevitable that a total ban is in the cards

Hunters wanting to ban other people's hunting methods is an idiotic idea. Maybe next they will come after how you like to hunt. :twocents:

Who says it's other hunters? I think it's a mix of concerned folks

I think it's funny how you people say, "hey guys don't bait because it just gives the antis ammunition..."
I've only ever been trashed for baiting by other hunters. Mostly on this site. :dunno:
-
If I talked to anti hunters about killing a deer over bait, they don't say, "over bait? For shame!" They say, "why would you want to kill an innocent animal?"
Anyway, I guess I'll have to learn to hunt again someday. In the meantime, I'd better get back to butchering an elk that was not killed over bait

Baiting for bears was made illegal in Washington by an initiative passed by voters. It passed by an overwhelming margin.

That's because the overwhelming number of people in Washington are not hunters. Not saying they are anti hunters, they just aren't hunters. We don't want to piss them off because they can outvote us on anything.

It probably would've passed by nearly the same if it was limits of 10 gallons of bait or total ban on bear hunting.

There are no deer in the islands, nor trees, nor apples.....

Absolutely correct but how many of those votes were cast by people who don't ever think about hunting or baiting when they aren't reading some non descript initiative trash? Just because people vote a certain way on an issue doesn't make them an activist was my point.
Hound hunters hate baiters, still-hunters hate houndsmen, and stand hunters hate still hunters that walk through their setup :chuckle:
-
I think most of the non hunting public doesn't care too much about guns and hunting until some billionaire stirs them up with propaganda.

Is this how all newcomers are responded to here? Lord just delete it no need for all this. I been reading here a lot and I don't think there is a single topic that hasn't been repeated a thousand times.

You'll be fine here. Baiting is a touchy subject. Good thing you asked because now you know the regs a little better. It's just another tool to whack and stack
