Wife and I put in for 2nd deer on orcas. At the time we had land owner permission. Now unfortunately they have changed there mind as they have other family members that want to hunt that land. So we are stuck with these tags, and would still like to fill them. I know its not a hunt in the classic definition of hiking around etc., but we just want more meat for the freezer.
We are ethical, courteous and responsible hunters. Hoping someone on here might have a lead for access/ deer opportunities on Orcas Island.
Thanks,
-
There is some public land on the island, but you are in a tough spot. Which weapon? Archery seems to be a better chance of getting permission. Imo
-
Archery, or Slug shotgun, we are capable and prepared for either.

If you find a spot on private land, check with the Sheriff's office. They used to require you to fill out a small form and get the property owner to sign it.
Not sure if they still require it.
Lokidog may know.

HOW CAN THE SHERIFFS OFFICE MAKE YOU DO THAT IF ITS NOT WRITTEN LAW? :dunno:

I HAVE HEARD STORIES ABOUT THE PAST OUT THERE , AND IT WAS LIKE THE WILD WEST DURING DEER SEASONS, ARROWS AND BULLETS FLYING EVERYWHERE. :chuckle:

I like the wording "weather or not posted".
-
Thanks for the heads up on the form at the local LEO. We will make sure we get that taken care of. First we need to find some access. Still trying...
I was hoping some land owners would want some help with "deer control". Not yet the case.
Thanks Guys,.

You could try calling up some of the organic farms there and see if they have deer problems.
-
Yep, I was thinking that as well and will be hitting the phones.
Thanks,

In SJ County you must have written permission to hunt on private land, apparently it is a law, or regulation, or whatever.

Good idea, doesn't have to be "organic". Drive around and just look for orchards or large gardens.

Gotta love our law makers!

Here's a few to start with.
Just talked to a fellow farmer today - she had to fix her greenhouse because she spooked a deer who happened to be browsing on her greenhouse plants - left a big hole from the body and small holes from the antlers!
-
Hey Bantams, are you there on Orcas, or some other mystery isle?
-
Vashon. :)

Thanks Bantam!

Agreed - nice post Bantams. Good leads for possible access.

Beause they can..... Lopez Sheriff does the same. Because by law you have to have it on your person anyways Fish and Game law. So it makes it easyer for the Sheriff to have them made up and all you do is fill it out and also the property owner fill in info and sign. Very Easy to do.

I like it, makes it pretty clear who can and shouldn't be on a property. :twocents:

San Juan County should be notified of their violation of the laws of spelling and grammar.

Well spoke with two people from that list, and they were not interested. Few more to go...
-
Well... I hope you find a place to hunt. Good luck this coming up season.
