Title: How long will the Elk rut last?
Post by: sled on September 20, 2016, 05:57:22 PM: I am wondering now that I hear the Bulls have started going to town bugling now how long will it last, or the average Time for a rut. Never paid much attention until I drew quality muzzy bull this year.

I have wondering the same thing on the bugling, my Bethel Rifle Tag starts Friday morning. Hope they are ready to play :chuckle:

By the end of september through the first week of october, the bulls are absolutely ripping! Less cows in estrus means greater competition for existing cows. This results in aggressive bulls that are very responsive to bugling. Mid to late October you will experience a second estrus cycle of unbred cows.

Oct 1 is off the hook . but remember the bulls do t know when it ends .in areas with little pressure I sure bulls would come in late October . first crack at a bull is huge to me best time to kill him is the first time you call him.

Spot on! Usually still good the last week of October and even into November, but people pressure usually ends it
