Seems I remember a previous post and item that improved the ability to carry a sling with pack straps. I usually hunt with a badlands super day pack and it seems difficult to use with a sling. I find myself carrying in hand 90 % of the time.
Any thoughts?

Had same problem, bought a Slogans Outdoor Ultra flex. Carried about 8 hrs Saturday with pack with no problems. www.sloganoutdoors.com

You might consider this. It may work for your application.

Hasty I've got one of those. I'll break it out again and give it another try.
Thanks firepin I'll check into that as well

I see all these elite hunters on HuntWa on Highcountry trips. Shanevg etc. never hear any of them complaining about it. Just wondered what I was doing wrong. I can't stand the feel of a sling over backpack strap. It doesn't want to stay in the right place :bash:
-
How much weight do you carry? For day pack that weight about 10-12lb I most of the time I'm using red rock rover sling backpack.

not much wt probably the same. I keep a pack in the rig to haul out if needed.

Have you tried a safari style sling?

The elite use a Kifaru Gun Bearer.

I use a few Quake Claw slings. If the sling is sliding off of the pack strap, try it. It's rubber and doesn't slide.

You can sew a button on your pack strap that will keep your rifle sling from sliding.
Or you can do what I do when I do not want to stow my rifle, put my chest strap over my sling and reconnect. The chest strap keeps the sling from sliding. I also use the Claw slings which help grip as well.
-
Yes sliding is the problem I can see the pros and cons of the safari vs the grippy stuff. I'll have to check out the gun bearer. Thanks

oh nice. Would that kifaru adapt to other pack/straps?

I found a product called the unsling it which attaches to your pack and has straps attached to the rifle arranged in such a way as to carry the rifle in the ready position across your chest basically using your pack as the sling. They have a facebook page i believe

These.

They grip well in heavy rain too. Pretty light as well.

I have a rigid frame eberlestock and rigid badlands- would drive me nuts when my rifle would always slide off. I took a light weight fiberglass grounding stake - they're 3/8" in dia.
I cut them to length so they would only stick up about 1/2" above my pack strap- wrapped them in camo tape, slid them down thru the rigid frame and zip tied them together. Works absolutely amazing!

A simple search on the web came up with this http://www.slingsaver.net

Sewing a low profile button on your packstrap does the same thing.

The Safari Sling works well under a pack. In fact, that was a big selling point when I bought one when they first came out.
Saw them at the Sportman's Show. Thought it looked like a cool idea. I asked the guy about how it worked with a pack. He showed me exactly how it worked. I bought one. He was correct on all counts and to this day they are by far my preferred sling.
-
I have the same pack and used to struggle with the same issue. I bought one of these rubber slings at the PNW sportsman show - best sling I've found for hiking with a pack. It literally doesn't move now.

Not mention it's under $10 and it's a local Washington business in Olympia. I have one and it's super simple and works well for me.

:yeah: I have 2 and I like to run a double system. Helps keep the rifle on and also don't like my stock hitting my pistol on my side. Great little acc.

I tried the sling from Slogan Outdoors I bought at the Sportsmans Show last winter. I hated it. It was real short and an incredible hassle to adjust. It was so much hassle to adjust, it's not adjustable for practical purposes. I threw it in the garbage and got an old school leather sling.
-
I have been a member for a few years and have never posted before, but I hated this same issue and ended up making a metal clip and riveting it onto my backpack strap, it works amazing, I can actually hike with both hands free since my rifle doesn't slide around. Good luck!

This is what I use

I use the gun bearer on my kifaru but it won't work on your BL. It needs PALS webbing in order to connect. I know a lot of guys making DIY ones though. Bullblaster has a home made one for sure. Hands free is the way to go man!
-
Never tried a gun bearer on a garlands but works great on my pack. Super easy to undo to get rifle out as well.
-
Thanks for all the responses guys!!!!
I'm gonna play around with the safari sling this year, and ordered a sling saver this morning to check it out as well. Not too expensive and a Washington product.

Anyone in W. WA wanting a safari sling, I have one I'll let go cheap.
