So just found out Weyerhaeuser is going to allow youth hunters and a parent access onto Vail Tree Farm for the youth any buck hunt on Oct 8th & 9th even if we don't have a permit. After that youth opening weekend, only permit holders can access Vail Tree Farm for the remainder of the youth hunt. So we've only got 2 days to get in there and hunt.
That's pretty coo though! I haven't been in there for over 10 years and look forward to being in there again. Anyone have any idea on where they've been harvesting trees the past year or so and where some of the newer clear cuts are located? Unfortunately they aren't allowing us any earlier access to scout the area, so going into it opening morning in the dark and blind! Also curious to those of you who have permits, what time in the AM do they generally open the 1000 mainline road? Any info is greatly appreciated!

I had the vail permit 3 yrs ago. If you are not picky you will have no problem finding deer. A ton of spikes and 2 pnts in there.

Google Earth might be your best bet. The last update of that area seems to be July 2014, so add two years to the age of any cut you see. You should be able to find just what you're looking for.

This is only for the kids with the permits in the unit ( hunt #1563 and 1564)? Or was a correction posted by wdfw that allows all youth to hunt that weekend? Cool that weyco is allowing access.

You really don't need a map, just drive and have a good day. The whole area is full of clear cuts of all ages. Pretty much any road you turn on will have them. As for deer, it should be a give-me. As long as they can shoot. Have fun... Absolutely tons and tons of spikes!

It is definitely by drawn permit only. They check you in at the gate.
Weyco has been allowing the youth permit holders in the gates for that hunt since well before they started selling access. It is cool they are keeping that going.

Yes, it was a draw permit for youth hunters. Only 20 permits for youth and another 9 for disabled hunters during that weekend of Oct 8th and 9th.
Thanks for the info. Looking forward to it with my son.

My son had that permit 3 years ago, nice of them to let the kids hunt. We didn't see a lot of deer, it was 70 degrees, no rain yet. If we get some rain they should be running all over. He shot a spike at about 4 pm with his Grandpas 30/06. Good times
