I still have some work to do but it is fired up and cooking, during the curing processes we decided to throw in a pot roast and see how it would do, turned out pretty good.
The plans we used can be found here : http://duckdigital.net/Wheoh/pompeii_oven_plans2.0.pdf
we followed them closely and it worked out well, total dollars spent $ 1200-1300

the door is off of an antique wood oven and it slides in and out for access and acts as a damper.
I have an old coal furnace door that i will install under the oven to hold cooking utensils.

Go to the link that he posted. Step by step instructions, materials lists, etc.
Curious, how long did it take you from start to (almost) finished?

yes pretty much fallowed the linked instructions, one thing i will add is DO NOT buy the vermiculite out of the garden section of box store, it could have nitrogen fertilizer added.
it would be a several week process waiting for things to set and cure working evenings and weekends, took me longer because I work in agriculture and had little free time.

Had the kids and grand kids out for a pizza making party, it went well and was a lot of fun !
the oven floor temperature was 570 deg. the ceiling was over 800 deg. the pizzas cooked in just under 4 min.
-
Nice, did it taste like concrete by chance? Is there a way to season the oven so it doesn't give off strange tastes?
-
Looks awesome!!
You're going to be a longer pizza peel!
Us TC folks are waiting for the invite....

no taste of concrete or fire brick, during the curing processes I used only cherry wood for the fires and that seemed to do the trick

We are planning on having a hunt-wa TC/Basin BBQ sometime in May, That will be fun !
Yes, I need to make a long handled peel, welding gloves and singed eyebrows is not the answer :chuckle:
