Title: How many decoys for the early season?
Post by: Westsidewaterfowler on October 13, 2016, 09:47:59 PM: I know it's such a debatable subject but just curious what everyone sudjests for amount of decoys to throw out for these early season birds. I'm thinking maybe a dozen at max?

Post by: Mfowl on October 13, 2016, 10:00:33 PM: Depends on your spot. Alot of competition on public land, I'd put out a big spread of mixed species. Unmolested private ground the birds are comfortable with, I'd do a small simple spread.

Post by: h2ofowlr on October 13, 2016, 10:01:53 PM: Probably 4-6 dozen as we are hunting big water. Small pond 6-12. Just depends. With the wind, you will have good movement, but will need weighted keels. If all the decoys are moving, you could probably place as many as you want.

Post by: D-Rock425 on October 14, 2016, 08:01:13 AM: It's tough to say I've never hunted an opener with this amount of bad weather in the forecast. I think we will have 4 people hunting Saturday morning and only planning to have about a dozen decs and 2 or 3 wind decoys.
