And, I've noticed lots of different brands, which brand and grain should I be stock piling?? I don't need to of the line ammo, middle of the road will work. Thanks
-
I don't know where you are, but Surplus Ammo & Arms is usually a good place for mass 7.62x39.
On line try gunbot.net.
-
https://www.ammograb.com/ is another one to try. I think both sites will break down the cost per round for you, but you will want to check out a few of the cheapest options, some of the websites offer free shipping which may bring the overall price down a little.

I haven't seen anything that was a great price here locally in Spokane, but I also haven't really looked much. I just ordered a case of 223 the other day and figured that even if I found it for the same price locally I was going to end up paying more in tax than I did for shipping.

Just get Tula ammo from Walmart for $5 a box(20 rounds). They're reliable, accurate, and pretty good quality. I really doubt you can find a better deal than that. They used to have Herter's for less than 5 bucks at Cabela's, but haven't seen those for a while. They might bring it on Thanksgiving.
However, if you want good quality cheap ammo, get Tula from Walmart.

You can find better prices online if you're buying in bulk. I don't know if Walmart has a limit on how much they will let you buy or not, but you can get a case of 1000 online for under $5 per box shipped, with no tax. By all means buy it from Walmart if you want to shoot it right away or want to pick up a box or two here and there, but if the goal is to buy bulk, it's cheaper to buy it online.

Thank you both, I do want to buy 1,000 for now so I'll do it on line. Appreciate the info. Another question, my 30 round clip is junk, it feeds the ammo to quickly and jams the gun. It doesn't jam with the stock 10 round clip. Which 30 rd clip should I buy and where??? Thanks

Believe it or not the best price and quantity I've seen in a while was in Canada. I was up to see the wife's family a few weeks back and the Cabela's and Wholesale Sports on Vancouver Island had crates of battle packs stacked on the floor 3 to 4 feet high.

Instead of using a clip, i'd recommend using a magazine, it's really easy to install it. I will put 2 links down here, one of them is for a 30rd mag, the second one for a 20 rd mag. They both should work well, if not, Sportsman's Guide has excellent customer service and you can return them anytime, without any shipping or restocking fees. If you're not satisfied, you'll get your money back 100%.

As has been said, if you pay more than $.25/rd shipped, you're doing it wrong. I've always had great luck with cheap 7.62 ammo. Based on the election, I would expedite the purchase before everything goes haywire again.
As far as mags go, I would recommend going the AK route to lower the cost of mags considerably. SKS mags are goofy and spendy.
Good luck!

Midway usa has it on sale 28c a end plus shipping 640rnd in military tin

Thanks

I would add that like a lot of other people you can find much better deals if your patient and on some good email lists however time is kinda short before the election so to me 4 cents a round isn't that bad for a thousand rounds or so just in case...

Do SKS chew through the cheep steel stuff good like AK 47 do?

I've used wolf wpa and it works good in my sks. Also, herters work well in mine too. Haven't tried any bear ammo as the prices were better on the others. Depending on where you are, black sheep in cda had good prices last time I bought ammo
