Title: Where da birds?
Post by: Stein on October 19, 2016, 01:45:52 PM
Man, I had high hopes this morning after my last hunt on Saturday but only managed to put my eyeballs on a grand total of 2 ducks that were going mach 4 for somewhere else.

Beautiful day though.

If you were the guy with the white canopy near Samish that walked a long way and only stayed for an hour or two, shoot me a pm if you want to hunt together sometime.

I had a slow day today. My first hunt of the season. There are more birds around now then I'm used to seeing this time of year.

This stormy Oct. has pushed birds all over the place.  We have been shooting lots of birds inland already and that doesn't usually start kicking into full gear until Nov.
Been a good start so far.

I saw 5-6k snow geese in the Fir island reserve Sunday afternoon, 10.23.2016.

Tomorrow should be pretty good field hunting.  15-20 mph winds will get them out of the bay and push them into the fields...

I hope so, I should be able to get out in the morning for a few hours.  I'll probably take the pooch out for her first hunt.

Went for the first time this year to the pot holes and they are filling up well with only water that is.  We didn't even fire a shot and heard very little shooting and first shots heard was 6 minutes after shooting time which seems like a record for me.  I'm hoping someday for a virtual reality blind opens up! LOL.

How are honey pot hole from the past this time of year I'm calling we are not even going to get a total of 2 man limits total all season long this year how it sounded and looked yesterday.  I know it will most likely freeze up and be done shortly after the bird finally arrive.

I'm very limited on scout trips but usually can pattern our public spots which I knew it wasn't going to be good but not even that horrible as well.  My phone app shows Moses to be almost 60 degrees next week? Now I'm just looking into January hoping our shared private spot goes the way I hope and it includes hoping the farmer doesn't allow people to hunt his planted green in an area where the ducks like to be so it chases off the others from having interest in hunting it.  I just get this place patterned out and these others come in and cry the blues to get in and just destroyed the opportunity last year.

Lots and lots and lots of snows out there.  Not many ducks where I was but no complaints.  Not much shooting outside of the honey hole private place.

Staying in the flight pattern has well worked for us and our members....
We do a lot of scouting, but the payoff is worth it.
This was a group of members yesterday morning on KWTH Field 8.
This picture was taken at 9 am.

How'd the first outing with the new pup go!?

She's sitting here wondering why we don't drop a few ducks.

Fished Pothole yesterday and nothing to get super fired up about on bird numbers yet.  Was at the south end early and the fog was thick so I can not say how many shots early but I pretty sure it was not many.  Fishing was slow, maybe I should take up bird hunting again.

Lots of birds around in the right spots. Was actually surprised to see the numbers so high today. My daughter struggled at first, but finally said 'oh, I get it'  and smoked a nice limit alongside mine. Her first solid shoot on birds. She was even overwhelmed by some huge flocks of wigeon into the blocks,  and didn't know where to shoot.

I was in the Stanwood area yesterday doing some scouting. Nothing flying. There were a few birds in the treatment ponds. Made me realize it wasn't worth going out today

We hit a bunch of snows yesterday afternoon.  They are jumping from the bay to the La Conner/ Mount Vernon Flats.
Only when the rain was hitting and wind was picking up....

There is actually a decent amount of birds but they aren't flying with this warm stagnant weather we're having.

Nice.  Looks like a fun one.  You know you can take that sticker off the stock.  Those are put on by the factory to be removed by owner. :chuckle:

Then you would have to pay for another sticker?  I just use the 870 so that's my buddies who is going to be a Dad towards the end of the season so he is getting ready to act boring.   :cue:
