Pulled a tag for the Quilomene this year. I have been putting in for 16 years so this was a long time coming.
I plan to put in a ton of time and wear out some boots, but any tips or advice would be much appreciated as I have been waiting over half of my life for this tag.
Feel free to PM me with any tips or advice.
Thank you in advance.

Congrats on drawing that permit. Sorry I don't have any tips on that permit, but I just wanted to welcome you to the site and make sure you saw the bigfoot thread because of your screen-name.

Bigfoothunter is a stand up dude and good buddy. I might even be so lucky to go on this hunt! Welcome dude, and I'm sure these guys will give ya tons of good info.

I second this. His brother called in my teanaway archery bull! Hope you fill your tag!

What's your goal for this hunt? I saw the biggest 3 point I ever saw this year during archery. Also a pretty tall and wide 4x4 on my way out. Do you hunt this area regularly or just put in for it for special permit?

Fun tag.
Beautiful country.
My tips:
1. Don't neglect the lower country.
2. Don't be afraid to put some road miles on to get to different places in there.
Good luck and post pics.

If you have a boat, then you can access a lot of good country from the river. Find a map that shows the old army road that heads out from the microwave tower off of the Old Vantage Highway. The last time we were in there several years ago, I seen over 20 bucks that were 3 point or bigger iincluding a 3 point that was probably 27" wide all in one day driving the old army road. The road is gnarly and I would definitely have chains and a spare tire or two. There are some decent bucks running around the unit and you should have no problem finding a good one if you spend some time in there.
-
The only thing I know about it is the roads can get real sketchy so be prepared. Not just snow, I'm talking gumbo type mud.

Ultimately my goal is to enjoy my time in the field. I'm searching for a big body duck min 4pt, but looking for some mass.
I have hunted the area a few times with other permit holders, but spent most of my time on the Colockum side.

Thank you for the tip. Things have changed a lot in the Quilomene in the last 5 years are so, but I'm sure the roads are still the same! :chuckle: Got two spares, chains, hi-lift jack and all the "oh s***" tools.

So no tips from anyone? Rough...

I had the tag several years ago and hunted the 1st week and the last week of the permit season, and I can say for sure that you will see more deer during the last week as they migrate in there. The last week was also when I saw more of the bigger bucks, but I didn't see any of them down low, they all tended to be in the upper parts of the canyons. Have fun & good luck!
-
I always see a lot of deer down low I haven't hunted at that time of the year in the unit. I hunt on the west side of the unit. Havent hunted the other side so that's all I know.

I think you mean "waterfowl" and no.

Pun intended. :chuckle:

Had the tag before the wind farm got put in. Roads were horrible, take a vehicle you don't want anymore. :chuckle:
Be prepared for FOG. Thick, won't-lift-all-day FOG. Get in and learn the roads well so you can travel them to get either above or below the fog. Otherwise you'll sit all day waiting for it to lift. (my experience)
oooooold intel but it's all I got for ya! :twocents:

The biggest buck I have ever seen in my life was not far off Beacon Ridge Rd where the trees begin. He was down in the deep and steep, had his girlfriends with him, and stayed in that canyon most of elk season a few years back. I sure enjoyed watching him. Trust me...this dude was "world class". Hope you find a dandy, good luck!

I had that tag and made mistake of hunting the higher elevations of the unit. It was after the elk camps left and there was nothing around. Learned later the low country was bustling with deer, but I was out of vacation time.

Good Luck! just Tagging to follow the story

Low country on the Kittitas side or the river side?
-
Saw quite a few bruisers up there this elk season. Most good bucks I've seen up there for a few years. They were with does all week, should be an awesome hunt!
-
This is my dream hunt...hold out for 170" or better. Anything less is a waste. Get a four wheeler and learn the country. Drive from ridge to ridge and glass. Really there are no secret spots on this hunt. Hunt later in the time allotted to allow the migratory bucks to trickle out of the higher country. I would hunt the sage as I can cover more ground on a four wheeler and a spotting scope than still hunting. This is a great spot and stalk sage hunt hunt for big mulies. They are in there for sure.

Any updates????

I went Chukar hunting up the Quilomene creek draw from the Columbia last weekend. We saw elk but no deer. Do you think the majority of the bucks are still up high or are they coming down into the Kittitas side? I'm going Chukar hunting again next weekend I'll check in if I see more deer. Good luck I hope we see some pics soon.

So found this guy after passing up maybe 30 bucks wayyyyyyy up on top and bedded down in the sage. my heart was pounding once he stood up and looked right back at us. I'm happy and I'll consider this a successful hunt. I'm sure that there are some bigger bucks in there, but I couldn't pass this guy up and go home empty-handed on the last day.
-
Great buck. I wouldn't have passed it up on the first day.
-
Is the mule deer rutt there in 100% full swing?
