Good luck permit boys. I got to see him for about 20 seconds. It was well worth it. I snapped a couple frames then tried to double my zoom. The extra commotion sent him back into the depths like a whitetail.

STUD!!!!
-
Is he just a big 3? Or am I missing part of his rack?
-
I wasnt trying to grow a third on him, LOL! Cool thing is the 6 or 7 inch extra tine coming up off his main. He looked to be a four on one side. Honestly havent studied it much. Still soaking in his mass and square frame.
-
He's boxy and awesome for sure.
You got one of the ghosts on film and that's awesome.
-
Another great buck Bone . How many PM's do you get a year for locations of the deer you photograph :chuckle: ?

If you buy his calendar the GPS coordinates are in it, you just have to,know how to read it, kinda like Where's Waldo. ;)
-
That doe looks shopped!? :chuckle: :lol4:
-
Dang! Thats an awesome animal.
-
awesome
-
MY oh MY
-
:yike: nice...and I would bet a years pay he's regressing. What a beast.
-
Dandy buck.....
I kinda agree with muzzlebuck, something about that pic looks off to me :dunno:
-
That doe looks shopped!? :chuckle: :lol4:
Totally..lol
If we all didn't know bone better we'd believe it. Just shows the difference between a big mature buck and a young Doe. But damn what an Awesome buck!
-
I thought Halloween was tomorrow?
-
Got him! Dang I feel successful, lol. Went back to the area today. Chased a few other bucks. Kept a lose eye on the patch he was seen in. Nothing. We were about to pull stakes, but I wanted to Che k this little pocket I just knew he was in. I was so confident, I left my camera at the truck with the Mrs. I'd been carrying it all day. Slipped up over the edge and sure as heck, there he was standing broadside at 20 yards. I whipped around and headed up my back trail. Got to the truck and grabbed the camera and the Mrs. And hiked back to him. I figured he would be gone. We slipped up to the brim and peered over. Nothing! Then he exploded from under my feet. Thankfully he turned around to take a look. This time I got the 2x on and shot him up. Man I was jacked! Just as good as notching a tag.
The doe was out in the light and he was in the shadow. I brightened the image so you could see him thus really popping her. So in a way, yes photoshopped, but not like you guys are thinking. Thank you.
-
It looks to me like the doe gave him a hickey on his left side neck. Matin' season.
-
The Yakima Indians will get that one too

Awesome! Are we gonna see some of these shots from today?
-
they are oppressed remember, they deserve to just hunt these quality units, hell, they can go the whole rut and kill one everyday and we just have to respect the fact that their ancestors had their feelings hurt and they deserve this. if only i could prove somehow i feel oppressed maybe ill get to hunt it too

just one, where I stepped on him, but currently I cant upload for somereason. I got an awesome shot, but its going into the calendar collection.
-
Glad you found him again....can't wait to see a few more pics.
-
Man, you want to whine and cry, do it in your own thread. No need to muddy up Bone's thread with your anger and frustration.
-
Not crying. Just really disapointed in the state of Wa
It took my friend 12 years to draw
I have 14 points.
The state just wants my money
-
Stepped on him....opened fire with the Canon

Cool. You gonna go for his sheds knowing how tight he holds to his area?

I think so, and then there is an archery hunt I think around Thanksgiving.
Ive burned alot of shoe leather out in the desert looking for sheds. Cant say ive been super successful. LOL
-
That buck has a nice frame but I'm not really seeing a world class buck? Maybe it's just the pics?
Regards, Branden
-
That's not world class my friend. That's the last great buck in the desert unit. Thanks for giving the tribe pics.
Of a buck to kill.
-
I'd call him a world class sprinter. :chuckle:
-

Regards, Branden
Ya, he'd score about 140. Sometimes there is more to a monarch than score though. To each his own.
-
No more pics of desert bucks. Why give them ammo
I talked with the 3 Yakima Tribe members. There horn hunting. Save the unit
-
I dont care what or where bone takes his pics as long as i, and others, get to see them. Dont like it, bugger off and save your comments.
-
Awesome Bone.
And for sure, he won't score well at all. But that's not what makes him World Class.
-
@PlateauNDN go whack this one
-
I didn't even attempt to score him because I can't see if he's just a big fork, 3 point, 4 point etc. I just don't feel he is a world class animal looking at him. He doesn't have anything that's super exceptional that I can tell from the pics. Looks like a nice mature buck. But what's world class about him? I'm really curious what features make this a world class buck?
Regards, Branden
-
@PlateauNDN go whack this one
Nah, he's to small, it's a trophy unit :chuckle:
-
Because I'd kill him in the Kiabab, Sonora, Alberta, the Pauns, in 45, the Henry's, anywhere I had a tag. Bases like that, eye guards, his age, size, square frame. The way he acts. I wouldn't care if he was a forkie. Old recessed buck. Old gray ghost.
If that doesn't meet your criteria....sorry. The fact I had to explain it means it doesn't. That's fine.
-
Big body, swollen neck and heavy bases, I'm shooting that deer any day of the week.

Thanks for the response on why you think it's a world class buck.
I feel like a world class buck is one any hunter anywhere would target. And most hunters aren't going to target that buck in any of the places you listed. It's an old regressed buck. Lots of old regressed bucks get killed every year. Nothing world class about them.

We get it.....your wall is filled with world class bucks Branden. Some of us hunters consider lesser bucks (in your eyes) world class. I am super glad we all feel differently about what world class is.....otherwise we would all be chasing the same deer. ;) I think you made your point loud and clear....you would not kill a deer of this caliber as it is below you. Rather than throw stones and then be passive agressive by saying thanks and regards.....just post pics of some of your world class bucks so the forum can enjoy your post as much as they enjoy bones.
Cheers :brew:
-
Even bone's pic threads getting derailed these days......keep up the good work bone, because character bucks like these these days around here are far and few between.
-
These muley pics are great, but i have a feeling youve got some good whitetail pics in your pocket. Dont hold out on us.

I never said I wouldn't kill it. I said I wouldn't kill it on any of the world class units bone listed. Big difference. I also said its a mature buck. I just think the thread title is very very misleading. World class means among the best in the world. Sorry that deer doesn't have the most mass, tine length, width, anything to make it among the best in the world.
Again it's a mature buck, but nothing about it is "best in the world or among best in the world".
I posted video of some bucks and bulls I've seen this year. None were "world class" though. ;)
Regards, Branden.
-
Glad we got that covered about what constitutes someone's perception of a world class buck. Apparently, it's not a term to use loosely.

Wow way cool Bone! can't wait to see that guy in the next calendar!
-
Thanks for sharing the pics Bone! I've spent a fair amount of time out there and locating some of those old bruisers isn't as easy as everyone thinks it is. We have similar taste Bone. I've been blessed to shoot some big bucks, but unique factor often rates higher than score for me. I'd highly consider that buck for his white faced cape alone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I would necessarily take him over a 200 inch buck, but I would take him over a 175"er. I've seen the rack of a huge two point with eye guards that is "Buck of justice" like. I told the Taxi doing the work on that buck that I would rate him in the top five of all the Bucks I have ever seen in WA. Character may not matter to everyone, but it does to me😀
-
Wow, there are a lot of Jim Shockeys on here. I personally found that buck world class for more reasons than one. Keep it up one!
-
Very pretty stud buck there Doug thanks for sharing and time for Braden to take a LOA
-
Love the frame on that one
-
Thank you for sharing don't let the negativity get to you. I really enjoy looking at your pictures every winter.
-
Bone, are you sure those pix are of the same buck? The first one the antlers look way darker, of course that might be from lighting. But the brow tines also seem smaller on the first picture. Different angles, but the first one they look uniform and the second one, one has a pretty noticeable curve and one has a big lump on it. I was thinking maybe you found two nice bucks.
-
Bone -- fantastic pics!! World class or not, rez or not, same deer or not. Who the F*&* cares?! Great deer, great pics. Keep it up and thanks for sharing with those of us who appreciate the beauty of the outdoors. Sure glad I didn't post the pic of my "trophy" on this site.

Agree.
Check out the extra eyeguard on the left side. Same buck.

Thank you everybody! Id love to see it Tapp. Im not worried about it. I know what he is getting at, but its just a thread title. I feel quite comfortable with what deer I see, and the deer I hunt, and the deer I have. Some are even officially world class, lol. Im glad folks get that sometimes there is more to a deer and the hunt than just a score.
I am happy folks still enjoy my pics. THank you!

:yeah:

Pretty sure its same buck. The extra point coming off that mainbeam is pretty rare. I did note the change in color of the antlers from the previous day. I assumed it was the rain.
-
I agree with you Bone, the square rack does it for me. If I had an ideal mule deer rack it be as tall as it is wide and SQUARE, with great brow tines and thick/trashy bases. Couldn't give one crap about the score.
-
Great photos Bone!

Great pics Bone!
-
Anytime a buck is up and over that 40" of mass mark he is an exceptional animal in my eyes! Nice find Doug!
-
Absolute world class road in my books! Awesome pics bone! Sucks people have to get into a battle over such little things in life..... It's all a personal preference, any "mature" buck should be awesome in anyone's book!
-
the box frame is purdy !
-
We don't see it a lot . Not that boxy anyways. I want to photo him tomorrow, but don't want to get him killed
-
Great pic Bone! Love that old wise look, what a beautiful cape!
-
Old open country bucks in particular are really cool. They really are the ninjas of the mule deer world, any buck that makes it to 4 1/2 years in the Columbia Basin is a wise old buck that is incredibly hard to hang a tag on outside of the rut, and is still hard to hang a tag on during the rut.
