Shot a big Blacktail last week. Biggest pure Blacktail I've taken.
-
That is an awesome buck!!! Congrats!!!!
-
Time to make room on your wall!! Great buck!!
-
No more going on the wall. Did a European mount. And yes I tagged him after the pics.
-
Great buck
-
Great buck, love to color of his hide and face.
-
Saw this one right after I shot mine. He was the one I was after. Chased a couple of does for about 20 minutes all around me.
-
That's where you need a hunting buddy along with
-
Lol! He will be there next year.
-
Both awesome bucks.
Nice work! 👍

Wow. Gorgeous BT. Congrats!!!
-
Nice one. Awesome rack. Which buck do you think was dominant between the two? Usually, the dominant buck is the last to enter the clearing. Was that big forkie bigger than your stud buck?
-
No question the big wide one was the boss. He was much larger body wise than mine. He was actually a 2x3 with eyeguards. Just a stud. I'm guessing 22 - 23" wide? Huge buck deer. I saw 2 others to and he was running them all off.
-
I kind of figured that. I think body size trumps the size of antlers in the war of dominance.
-
The area I'm hunting is a super thick area with alders along a creek and Doug fir. I just sneak in sit and wait.
-
That is what I call a masher.

I also knew that would work (for someone, just not for me). Way to think it out and have the patience to stick with the plan, and then be calm enough to get the pic of the big buck after you shot the puny one. :chuckle:
-
Super buck! Congratulations.
-
I would take either of those that is for sure

Lol! I was in awe. I just stood there and watched him follow the does and watched the other bucks try to get close. A couple of times he was within 20 yards of me. My kid went back in there later and shot another buck. I never saw the one he ended up shooting when I was in there.
-
My stepsons buck that he shot in the same area later that day.
-
I told him it was really my buck seeings he borrowed my hat and vest!
-
Wow, great bucks! Sounds like a hot BT area
-
It is, and they were stupid following does. Just hit it perfect. That doesn't happen very often.
-
Wow nice bucks

-
Wow great buck! Both bucks are nice.
-
Lol! Yep. And my blue sweat jacket. I've killed a lot of animals with that jacket on.

I just don't understand how he even killed that buck not wearing the best Sitka/ any other fancy gear people buy, plus no camo. :chuckle:
Great bucks guys.
-
Lol! You know once upon a time, a long time ago, that's all we wore during deer season. Blue jeans and a flannel shirt was styling!

Yep, I've killed deer in blue jeans, flannel shirt, no day pack, with only a knife in my pocket.
-
Nice Bucks. Congrats
-
you know if you guys keep this thread going about killing great deer without the use of the latest scent-free camoflauge rain proof clothing the Russian hackers at the direction of the big box sporting goods retailers are gonna shut this thing down and produce wiki-leaks e-mails of everyone that supports spending $500 on a jacket/pants combo to even see a deer...God knows how we ever survived without them

Speaking of Russians/Eastern Europeans anybody see them hunting deer?
-
I guess I'm kind of old fashioned. Or just old! I still prefer wool, but it was to warm for them that day. I was just sitting so wasn't worried about my jeans making any noise. The new gear has its place, but surely isn't required to kill dear.
-
You got yourself a great honey hole if there are several blacktail s of that caliber!! Congrats

Great bucks! Did you scout that place before season or has it been a known rut area for bucks in previous years?
Can you give a little explanation of what the area is like? You mentioned a thick alser area with a creek. Is it adjacent to cuts, reprod or timber? If it's a rut area what do you think brings the bucks into that area year after year?
Nice job!

It's an area I've been hunting for the last few years. It holds lots of deer at all times, plus there are lots of deer in the surrounding area. I see bucks in and around there all the time. I have never seen the big 3x2 or the one I shot, but I have seen bucks the size of mine in that general area.
It was logged off about 6 years ago and is completely over grown with Alder and Blackberry bushes. Along the creek there was a set back for stream protection and that is big Maple and Doug Firs. The particular area I'm hunting is surrounded by farms and undeveloped private land. Just perfect Blacktail deer habitat. It's thick, lots of food, secluded in the sense that they can easily hide. I scout through there and the surrounding area a lot. When I hunt it, I know right where I'm going so I just ease in and sit down. And that's it. Sometimes I see them, sometimes I don't. But I know there are big bucks there. Makes it easier to sit still.
-
I shot this one year before last, a quarter mile away from this years in the same habitat. He was rubbing on an Alder in a jungle. I was moving in to sit and spooked him. Waited a bit, then circled around. He was looking where he thought I was!
-
Ok...now your just showing off. 8) :chuckle:
I like it.

Hey lad! How's it going?
-
Outstanding blacktails!
-
Thanks, it's my personal best pure Blacktail and his bases are the biggest of any deer I've ever shot. 5 6/8 and 5 7/8. Hog buck deer. The step kids was really nice to. Didn't have the mass, but was a bit wider. A great buck deer.
-
Think like a deer...kill a deer...way to pull off the backdoor sneak! Great bucks all around, congrats!
-
Wow! Those are some nice BT's. Great job and congrats.
